Sometimes there are updates that are issued just because of an update of a particular module, such as advanced heuristics, archive module, cleaner, etc. Updates that appear small at the first sight may be much more important than updates with X-times more samples listed.

Some other AV brands rely more on definitions, thus...they NEED definition updates to keep up with things. Eset relies more on heuristics...so it can detect bad stuff without relying 100% on definitions. Thus, you cannot state that an AV product that relies more on heuristics is falling behind because over the course of a weekend a definition update may not be released.

What if Eset staff determines that some new malware outbreak over the weekend is indeed detected by heuristics? Why grab the red panic phone and place emergency calls to bring on staff to rush out a definition update...if the product already detects it via heuristics?

i understand that, thats why i use nod. i still don't understand why we get so many updates on a weekday, if one over the weekend is fine why not one update every other day?
