    Hi,

I wasn't sure whether we have already a "dedicated" thread for the 2.5 beta on a Windows 98 SE system.
So I thought it a good idea to start one.
I suppose that issues for Windows ME might be the same as those for W98SE.

I hope that the moderators are OK that I started this thread.
If so, may I invite you 98 and ME users to post here your experiences so we could learn from each other.

    Well, let me start ;)

I just installed the new 2.50.2 Beta (English) on my Dutch W98SE system.

First I uninstalled the previous version.
I rebooted, and installed that beta version.

Well, I am not a very quick guy, so I still have to go through several settings ;)

But I wanted to start with a huge and big thanks to ESET :
That Winmgmt, about which we talked in the past, is no longer starting :D
I am very happy about this ! :D :)

    I noticed:

NOD32KRN.exe is now called NOD32 Kernel Service.

I think that I saw a new "component" mentioned: XMON.

I am not sure where to look for that one.
Do we W98SE users have that one too ?

Another question, about EMON and the Control Center:

I have installed through the so-called Expert Installation Mode (like I did in the past).

I use the standard Windows interface.

I don't have nor use Outlook (not to confuse with Outlook Express, which I have).

If I remember me well, in the previous version the icon for EMON in the Control Center was red, in this beta it has the same colour as AMON for example (please remember my bad eyes ;)).

XMON stands for Exchange Monitor, doesn't come with the standard version.

    Cheers :D

    Hi,

I thought it would be better to give a screenshot, hoping that that would make it a little bit more clear what I was talking about.

At the right side you see that EMON is not running.
That is right, I don't need it.
At the left side however you see that the little icon before EMON has the same colour as for example AMON (which is running).

A little bit about file changes for those interested (it would be useless to post all the changes, so only the most important ones).

    Deleted were:
    c:\windows\system\nms32.dll
    c:\program files\eset\ps_nms.dll
    c:\program files\eset\pu_nms.dll
    c:\program files\eset\setup\02\ps_nms.dll
    c:\program files\eset\setup\02\pu_nms.dll

    New were:
    c:\program files\eset\nod32.005
    c:\program files\eset\nod32.006

    New were:
    c:\program files\eset\emon.dll
    c:\program files\eset\ps_emon.dll
    c:\program files\eset\pu_emon.dll
    c:\program files\eset\setup\02\ps_emon.dll
    c:\program files\eset\setup\02\pu_emon.dll
    About those EMON files:
I'm not sure whether this is related to what I posted above about that EMON question.
Maybe I did something wrong during installation.
(I'm a bit stressed at the moment cause I have to care for a very ill cat from my brother who is not home...).
So all could well be caused by me doing something not right.

    Another thing I noticed:
    Most of the files have now a version-number (Version: 2, 50, 2 Beta), which I do appreciate ! :)
But some of the IMON-files don't have one:
    - c:\program files\eset\setup\02\imon.dll
    - c:\windows\system\imon.dll
While other IMON-files do have one:
    - c:\program files\eset\pu_imon.dll
    - c:\program files\eset\setup\02\pu_imon.dll
And the following one has also no version-number:
    - c:\program files\eset\amon.vxd

If you use MS Outlook as your mail client, just click the Start button in the EMON panel to start it.

Do you have MS Office installed? If so Nod is just picking up that Outlook is available.

    Cheers :D

    Hi Craig,

Thanks for your reply ! :D

    Yep, '97 is installed.
But it could very well be my own fault.
I'll try to pay much closer attention to the installation of the new 2.50.7 Beta, somewhere in the coming days.
Anyhow, I was already very pleased with the beta I had installed :)

    Cheers, Jan.

    Installed the new 2.50.7 Beta.

About that little EMON icon in the Control Center:
Same as in the previous beta 2.
Definitely not very important, but I would suggest that it has the same colour as other modules that are not running ;)
