Only today I've been having this problem - and nothing's changed. I even restored the computer to a previous state with Acronis TrueImage - to no avail.

If I click update, no matter which server it gets to, it seems to download update.ver okay, and then it tries to download engine2.nup, and I get a server connection failure.

I do have a legal version of NOD, that doesn't expire until sometime in 2008.
Don't know if its a problem my end or what not, here's some of the logs:

    The only possible reasons are:
    1. no Internet connection is established
    2. a firewall is blocking the nod32krn service
    3. the proxy server settings in the NOD32 update setup are wrong

Check Marcos's suggestions, then if the problem persists, I'd call the ISP and ask if they added a proxy without telling anyone... because if nothing changed your end that you're aware of, something appears to have changed between you and the update servers..

Another thing to check - make sure your hosts file is intact and as it should be.

Did you check the proxy server settings? Go to the NOD32 Control Center - Update - Setup - Advanced - Proxy setup and make sure that use of proxy is disabled if you use none at all, or set it properly per instructions provided by your administrator or ISP.

    For my system:

    1. I am always connected to the internet via cable modem

    2. I do run a firewall, but NOD32 Kernel Servie is in the trusted zone

    3. I don't use a proxy server

I use a locked MVPS hosts file. Someone else mentioned having an intact hosts file. I'm pretty sure I do.

    Could this be anything else?

I'm new to nod32, so please bear with me. I'm having a problem with nod32 not updating (or at least the module "update", but the kernel is updating).

    Some environmental info:
I am running sp2 with all fixes.
I am running kerios firewall and I see activity by the kernel but nothing for the update module. Latest kerio firewall with all updates. It's almost as if the firewall isn't even seeing the traffic from 'update', so I suspect the proxy server, but the kernel is successful.
I am running spysweeper (latest version with updates)
I am running cookie crusher (ccrusher.exe) and it establishes a IE http only proxy server of 127.0.0.1/5555 for my lan. There are no other proxies set up.
Cookie crusher has been doing what it is supposed to for a long time.
I am running a ethernet home network behind a router using comcast.net cable internet service.
I just installed nod32 a couple of days ago and followed (mostly) the "extra settings" list of options. I never had a nod32 evaluation or beta installed. I was pretty careful about getting rid of all traces of Norton Systemworks 2005.
Does the update module use http or perhaps something like ftp (which does not use a proxy in my IE)?
This is the information that may help. If you have other questions or suggestions about info I can provide, please send me a email directly or post it here. If I'm just worrying too much, please feel free to tell me that as well.

I would want to see logs over several days to see if there actually is a problem. For reference the only time that I check my connection logs is if I haven't seen Nod32 update in a day or so.

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers :D

    Blackspear,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have some additional info that might help. When I select Update Now, the Update Now text changes to Abort and in greyed text below that is Cancel Update. It quickly changes back to Update Now and 'run an immediate update'. I get the popup that says no update is necessary.
I'm guessing that there actually haven't been any code changes, but I want to be sure I am ignoring the right things.
I am logging router traffic and can see outbound traffic to the 82.165 domain using HTTP service with TCP protocol to port 80. I never see any inbound traffic for the U*.eset.com servers. In fact, the only outbound traffic I see is for U6 (.14), U5 (.33) and U12 (.174).
I will include my connection logs from 5/7 13:04 thru 5/9 16:24 during which 'update' never connected at all.
Is it possible that if there are no code updates that an 'abort' is forced?
If this is normal, it sure is disconcerting to the newbie.
    thanks,
    Dick

    You have successful daily updates.

It is normal, you are just having a wander around Nod32 and seeing the amount of information it reports. Like I said, so long as you are seeing Nod32 update at least every day or so you aren’t having an issue.

The only problem that I do see is that your dates are not correct; they should be 7/5/2006, 8/5/2006, 9/5/2006... :ninja: :D

    Cheers :D

    Blackspear,
Thanks for the time. I'll quit walking about for awhile. It was the "Abort" and "cancel update" that got my attention in the first place. That might be something to "smooth over" in the future.
    Thanks again,
    Dick

My pleasure, just keep an eye on it, so longs as the updates are actually coming through you are ok.

    Cheers :D
