If a nerd install an operating system, but no one uses it, is it really installed? OK, so here's an article debating the moral, legal and practical validity of terms and limitations presented in End User License Agreements (EULA), which are mostly disregarded by users.

That's one of the primary reasons I favor Open Source. AFAIC, once I install an app or operating system, I will use or alter it as I see fit. If I don't need or want some of the components that come with Windows for instance, I'll strip them out. If I don't want an app to autostart, auto-update, or call home, I'll disable that ability. Whether the vendor likes it or not, I'll decide what is and is not acceptable on my system. They may own the code but I own the hardware, and I will decide what is done on it. Regarding their tracking or collecting data, good luck trying.
