    Hi Plexi,

Please surf to http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/ and scroll down to
    Registry Search Tool
    Download, unzip and run RegSrch.vbs
Copy and paste this in the dialog box: wmplayer.exe
After a while a prompt will come up. Click OK to write the results to wordpad and post them.

    Regards,

    Pieter

When I ran RegSrch.vbs and an Norton Antivirus message poped up. It's in Norwegian so I have problems with translating it into english..

Object: Windows Script Host Shell Object
    Activity: Run

The machine is stopped and has to do something with this script

    File: C:\Program Files\RegSearchTool\RegSrch.vbs

What do you want to do?
Action: (Here it is four different choises)
    Stop this script (recommended)
    Allow this activity one time
Allow the whole script one time
    Isolate this script
    approve this script

    What should I do?

It won't send with the results pasted into a message, so I have attatched the results in a text file. I have not deleted Stream yet, nor have I deleted or downloaded a new wmplayer.exe.

I've allways thought it was version 9.0, but now I'm not sure. In wmplayer properties it says file version 8.0.0.4490? I belive it's 9.0

OK. Now WMP works. Back to IE. nkvd.us still overrides any adresses(execept this sites adress) I type in the adressbar. What shall I do?

    Hi Plexi,

Can you post one more HijackThis log please?
And can you describe a bit more in detail what happens when you type an adress? Does it put the hijack in front of the rest or completely overwrite it and when exactly does that happen?
Sorry about all the questions. I just have never seen something like this before.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter!

I just ran Spybot, and it only found and registration for WMP.

    More about the IE problem:

When I type in an adress and clicks enter, it puts the hijack infront of the rest. For example: My homepage is suposed to be www.startsiden.no, but instead I'm getting hijacked like this: http://searchpage.cc/www.startsiden.no
If I try to type www.google.com in the adressbar and click "Enter" it turns to http://searchpage.cc/www.google.com
If I type http:// before www.google.com and then "Enter" it works. I get to google.com
if I type https:// before an adress this also works. And links works in the pages where I have typed http:// before the adress to view the page.

only other suggestion at tye moment that you can try is

open IE/tools/options/programs and press reset web settings

even tough we think we have removed all known places that this hijackers hides, it's possible that one of the default settings might have stuck.

See if that makes any difference

    Hi Plexi,

Download this file: http://www.zero.vulc4n.com/downloads/pv.zip and unzip it to the desktop.
Be sure to have one Internet Explorer window open, then double click on the runme.bat.
When you doubleclick runme.bat you will get a screen with a few options. Choose option 2 while you have one IE window open and click Enter.

The txt file that gets made then is the one we need.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I don't understand what intentions anyone have by making such a bug as this.

One question: Back yesterday when I started in safe mode, I could eighter log on as administrator or on my user account. I did the last. Should I have started in administrator? Or dosn't it matter?

    OK, here's the PV log:

    Hi Plexi,

We would need logs to be made in the account that has the problems.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I have had another dig around and found this suggestion can you run the pv again but this time click on explore.bat not runme.bat

sometimes this bad file we are looking for gets attached to explorer itself rather than intenet explorer

How do I run explorer.bat? When I run runme.bat and clicks explorer dll's nothing happens.

Another question: If I uninstall IE and then downloads a new IE with Opera, and installs it, will this solve the problem?

open the pv folder and there should be 3 bat files, explorer.bat runme.bat and version.bat

double click the explorer.bat file and make a log & post it

unfortunately you cannot uninstall IE in XP and even if you could that would'nt solve the problem.

The file that seems to be causing this isn't attached to IE according to the log so we hope it will be attached to explorer, which is the underlying operating system, if we don't find it there, then you have a completely new version that no one has come across yet.

    Edit

Sorry I had an older version of this program than you have

I've just updated mine so I knopwe what you were referring to

press 1 (explorer dll )then press return

I would NOT do that fix for you

The real experts in the cws hijacks discuss fixes in a closed forum where various fixes can be tried on test machines safely and taht isn't an approved way to fix this hijack.

We ahve already looked at your mediaplayer I think and replaced it entirely haven't we ?

so that fix doesn't work as a new install of media player, which you have done overwrites those entries completely
