after not using any norton product for years i decided to give NIS 2011 a try....i installed on two computers and so far i am very pleased....it provides a user with lots of info and is very light on resources.....and after all of the comments/reviews, i am confident in its overall abilities to protect me....

    Hey guys!

Here are available Norton 2010 90 day OEM versions:

    NIS 2011 (for ING Direct)
~ Link Removed as per Policy ~

Norton AV 2011 and Norton 360 (for Microsoft)
    http://buy-static.norton.com/prod/html/partner/msft_EN.html

Note - currently there is some problem with the files . If you download them they will be extensionless . You must add .exe to the file to make the file executable.

May I remind all Wilders members who find software deals to properly check them, to see if they are applicable to everyone, before posting them:

    Dear JRViejo,

Both Microsoft promotions and ING direct promotions are not hidden deals.
Microsoft and ING direct are Symantec partners and Symantec makes OEM versions for customers of both ING/Microsoft companies.

As you blocked ING direct link , I'll show you why it is in no way hidden :

1 . goto ING direct official web site:
    http://home.ingdirect.com/
    2. Click any other link to go further inside
    3. Click Tips and Tools
    4. Click Customer Corner
    5. Click Deals and Promotions
    6. On the list find Symantec/Norton Internet Security and here we are redirected to a Norton domain (*.norton.com)

Higher than a stand alone AV like Avira, lower than some suites, like KIS.

Honestly, you would need to watch it for much longer that 30min to get an accurate measure. And there are a lot of variable, etc...

this is something that norton needs to address.............it flags legit files(read-glary utilities update) and wipes them...some insight

The file has gained bad reputaiton probably . If you believe the file is legitimate , submit information to Symantec - they will fix it very fast

Something seemed odd to me when I saw the screenshot... maybe NIS had an issue connecting to the Insight Network.

I downloaded the same file, just now, had no issues, it was marked as safe.

    Check the attached pic.

I thought so but it seemed enough to back-up an argument with a particular friend.

I sometimes am critical of critics who seem to not be objective in their comments, especially in some standard hated applications.

However, I am very glad we have those here who can catch such glitches and send the info to the developers for correction. I hardly know how to send a file.
I am convinced that the products we use are better for the examinations and submissions of problems by folks here. Thanks.:thumb:

    Regards,
    Jerry

Is there a way to install the trial version of NIS 2011 without giving Symantec your credit card info?

Yes, if you follow instructions in post #29 you will wind up with an installer for NIS 2011. You will need to "activate" after installation, but that only involves creating a Norton Account (valid email address and password) if you don't already have one. Credit Card information is not required.

Never used norton before 2009.. and have been using only norton from 2009..:)

But only one thing concerns me is.. the scan time memory usage.. its takes almost 180 Mb even with 2011 AV. humm

Do you actually use you PC when it is scanning? I only scan when I am taking a break. Also Norton is preconfigured to scan when you are away from your machine. Memory use during a scan is the last thing I worry about.

Memory consumption should not worry you . You really don't need to make any computer scans during normal/work . In order to save resourses Norton automatically performs these tasks (known as background tasks) during idle time. Quick memory scan is performed silently in the background after every Full defintions update.
