I am currently running Firefox 3.0.5 as my default browser. Ever since I installed Norton Internet Security 2009, Firefox crashes and closes about once every 15-20 minutes. I never had a problem with Firefox until I installed NIS. There is no such problem with IE 7, but I just don't like using it. Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be the Phishing filter NIS installs? As an aside, is Trend Micro Internet Security as bad in detection as most tests seem to indicate? I had thought of switching to it if my Firefox crashing continues with NIS.

I never experienced such a problem. Try opening Firefox in Safe Mode and disable all the add-ons/extensions.

I'm using Firefox 3.05 with NIS 2009, and don't have any problems.

I run FF 3.05 with NIS 2009 and don't have problems. I suggest you post a list of the "add-ons" you're using - there may be a conflict.

    Hi elvis1959 :)

    I Believe You! ;)

My laptop came with - NIS 08
NIS 08 - Comes with NIS Toolbar ( Identity Safe etc. )

Right from the start I had problems with - IE7 :(
1/ Opening Instantly One Minute .. Taking 10 to 20 minutes the next. ( e.g. Only Half Open .. Saying - Connecting )
2/ One web page loads instantly .. The next - 10 to 20 minutes
    3/ Often... Freezing
    4/ Often... " IE7 Stopped Responding "

    So!
    I got rid of NIS 08 .. & .. Got - NIS 09
    Same Problems With - IE7 :( .. But Even Worse :'(

    So!
I Got Myself - Firefox
    No Crashes :D

    However!
Every So Often - Maybe once or twice a day..
    I click to open - Firefox ... 10 to 20 minutes to open o_O
    And I don't mean it's half open / loaded like IE7 does.
I mean it doesn't open at all
I just have to sit there and wait.

    Note!
Apart from the once or twice a day... Firefox opens instantly. And doesn't give me any other problems :)
    However!
I've still got IE7 set as my Default Browser.
Something you might want to think about ;)
Maybe NIS 09 picks on the default browser the most.

I turned off the antiphishing protection in NIS last night. There have been no Firefox crashes since. Hmmm. Is Firefox sufficiently protected without it?

    Hi elvis1959,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The crashes you describe with NIS09 installed could be related to many things, and most likely are related to a problem with your installation of NIS09. I would suggest that you run Windows Update. I would also advise you to use the "Clear Private Data" feature in Firefox to clear everything out of Firefox and eliminate any corrupted files as the culprit.

Next, follow the instructions below to properly remove and reinstall NIS09.

    1. Click on the link below, and carefully follow the instructions to use the Norton Removal tool:

    Norton Removal Tool and Instructions

    2. After the tool has run and removed all Norton products, restart your computer. Log into Windows and run the tool again. Restart your computer after it finishes running a second time.

3 Reinstall Norton Internet Security 2009.

    4. When the installation is complete, launch NIS09 and select "Run LiveUpdate" to grab the latest updates. This step will also invoke the "Automatic Pulse Updates" feature going forward.

    5. Next, launch Firefox 3.05 and make sure you disable all of the Add-ons except for the two Norton Add-ons, and see if that makes a difference.

Let me know if you still experience the same issue or any other issues and I will do my best to help your troubleshoot the issue.

    Thanks,
    Mike
