Cany anyone help.. I am trying to install ESET Smart Security 6 but get the following message and installation fails... my user permissions ARE an Administrator....

"The installer has insufficient privileges to acces this directory C:program Files\ESET\ESET Smart Security. The installtiuon cannot continue. Logon as administrator or contact your system administrator."

I have read elsewhere that I should log on using Safe mode and remove installation there... which was the 'scan version only' - and I have done that...

    can anyone help?

Try also Cudni's advice, but you mention that you have removed AVG. There might be remnants of that installation left on your system, try also to run AVG uninstaller tool, see this link please : Uninstallers (removal tools) for common antivirus software ...(oh sorry Cudni, didn't saw that you had already mentioned this)

I had used the AVG uninstall link... previously but it hasn't completely removed it.

I have "AVG Search Toolbar" Folder in Program files that I am unable to remove the folder... I have also gone to Safe Mode and get the same message that I need "Administrator permissions" to remove it...... although when I got to Control Panel I am shown as an administrator.

    1. How can I remove this?

    2. Does that stop the ESET from installing?

    Hi

It's very likely the persistent search folder from AVG Search Toolbar, that's stop you from installing Eset,(as you mentioned) I think that you should take advantage of avg's free phone support,.... and I have no doubt that they will guide you through. AVG support center
