    I'm new to this forum, so hope I'm posting correctly..

    I'm getting a message on startup "missing brigde.dll"

    I've used Ad-Aware6 + Spybot SD to no avail. Can someone help me out? The HijackThis log file follows the 2 notes:

    Note 1-when I tried to generate a startup list, I received a NAV virus warning (bloodhound.exploit.6) then the message "cannot find startuplist.txt" When I confirm to create another, window stays blank.

    Note 2- Do not have SP1 installed. On two occasions have tried to update to SP1 (from website and from CD), and my computer refused to boot up even in safe mode...it was a large hassle + one re-format. I am running XPhome on a P4 Dell. I would really like to update all of the security patches but Tech support at Dell tells me not to download ANY security patches. I DON'T agree but twice bitten.....I am hesitant to do it again without knowing the reasons of my problems.

    Hi spaceghost,

    Have only Hijackthis running and fix :

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.msn.ca/
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = C:\WINDOWS\system32\searchbar.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = C:\WINDOWS\system32\searchbar.html

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\System32\bridge.dll",Load
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [stcinstaller] c:\installer\id53.exe

    O16 - DPF: {10000000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - ms-its:mhtml:file://C:\MAIN.MHT!http://d.dialer2004.com//paxan/main.chm::/load.exe

    O19 - User stylesheet: c:\windows\java\my.css (file missing)

    Restart PC afterdoing so and remove :

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\searchbar.html <- this file
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\bridge.dll <- this file
    c:\installer\id53.exe <- this file

    Update XP and IE to the latest patches

    Cheers,
