The latest results are out: http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-security-challenge/results.php
I'm willing to bet without looking that any firewall without HIPS probably did badly... I looked... I was right...
Thats why Matousec few months ago had to change name of his tests from Firewall Challange to Proactive Security Challenge but still many people thinks it's all about Firewall Tests.
And the Winner is? tadaaa - Matousec PS do you trust someone who is reflinking with "anrdoezrs . net" and others? >> This is a domain owned by Commission Junction and used for advertising. Domain was blocked here! same *** for Comodo - was linked here: https://accounts.comodo.com/cfp/management/signup?aid=13 sorry - i wont signup idiot! kaspersky -> linked with "dpbolvw . net" Outpost Pro -> http://www.agnitum.com/purchase/ i want to try - NOT buy... so funny too that Mamutu is considered as a firewall than a behavior blocker. i awaiting the results when MD goes free (if it goes free) - under new flags. would it raise or fall?
The fact that this report typically ends up in the "Other Firewalls" section helps contribute to this perception also...
If it's all about HIPS,i have a question...PC Tools firewall plus, has so strong HIPS really?I didn't try it until now, because i'm not convinced....And another thing that i didn't like about it (i've tried it some time ago) is the fact that it didn't have a real application control, from where i can terminate and block them.Or i haven't done my homework?
What is different about the KIS firewall that makes it score so much higher than any other suite? I wonder why the other AV suites cannot make their firewalls as effective as most stand alone firewalls? Regards, Jerry
And just one (maybe stupid) question... Are products tested with default settings, or with all dials turned up to eleven? If not the latter, then I'd think the Matousec tests to be more a test of default security than actual value as a firewall/HIPS in the hands of an experienced user, no?
I would like to see some testing done on a 64bit machine with 64bit software. To see how much patch guard is hindering HIPS software.
Most of us are (or will be) on x64 OS so these tests doesn't say anything. Testing on XP SP3 32-bit? Jeez, get back from stone age.
You dont have right, a lot of people are using a 32-bit system, and XP. Not everyone have cash for new Vista or Seven in 64-bit or simply dont matter.
Of course it won't last forever, however XP is harder to shift than a barnacle, the old boy just keeps grinding along.
