You might try going into WMP, click tools > options, switch to the 'file types' tabs, and select the ones you want ("select all" would be the easiest, if you don't mind WMP being used for all your media files.) See if you can get it to re-take those associations.

If they are selected, deselect them, hit ok, then go back in and reselect them

    Hi Blaze :).

I would like you to check something out mate...might be a long shot, but may let us see the problem ;).

First, download this MPG movie and save to desktop (just a video of a crab in the ocean being sucked into a pipe).

    Code:
    [url]http://www.punchbaby.com/media/gitfakt/clips/ouch/crabVsPipe.mpg[/url]

    Now, open up regedit:
START> RUN> type in regedit and then click OK.

Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mpg and expand all folders. Then highlight .mpg (like in my screenshot).

Now, right-click on the crabVsPipe.mpg on the desktop and select Open With. Don't do anything though (like in my screenshot).

Please take a screenshot of it all like mine and post back, that might help folks to maybe see any problems.

    Regards,
    Jade.

    Blazer ,
I am wondering a few things here. First I think you mentioned that these movies you have ( and might have had some before you installed SP2), that you had some of them in another format at first and then changed them to MPEG 1 to play them and that before you had the WMP9 and then got the new 10 thingie. Yes, i know you have the double left click and the tds going on... yet just as a long shot..I was reading this the other day about problems with that player and the SP2 and wondered if it might help you too.

    It start out>>
I upgraded to XP SP2 and since have had no luck on playing some of my AVI files. All I get are the visualization. WMP thinks the vids are audio files. The AVI files were created with DiVX codec which used to work fine.

fixed it there were sevral things that contributed to this phenomenon

Seems that both real player and windows media player 10 do not get along with the following applications

real player classic knowen as real alternitive
windows media player classic windows alternitive
    quick time alternitive

tds dose not get along with

real player classic knowen as real alternitive
windows media player classic windows alternitive
    quick time alternitive

removed all 3 offending applications above

asochiated all medial files with the newest verstion of real player

    played movie

    open windows media 10

reassochiated all media files with media player 10
every thing works now tds dose not scan medial files on double click

    Hi Blaze :).

Gald that you got it sorted out. On my comp, I am using Media Player 10, Winamp and Quicktime and they get along fine......just have to be careful with wich programs you associate certain files with.

    Regards,
    Jade.

The way I see this is your movie will be opened with TDS because it is bold. The way to handle this is click on properties, then click on the tab general and choose the button change, then find in the list Windows media player and be sure that you check the line always use this program. That must be the way to let Windows media player handle this file again.
