I just installed the beta of Avira Premium Security Suite- and right now it is the lightest program I have used on my laptop. I have also tested and used NIS 2009 since it was in beta, and on my machine, Avira is lighter and not just marginally. Apply for Avira beta tester status and see for yourself.

You might want to try it with both the webguard off and on. It is really not needed as the guard will catch anything that tries to execute, but on my machine, having webguard off makes opening a webpage a little faster.

According to your signature you have Vista 64, which is currently not supported by the early beta versions, as drivers need to be signed for Vista 64, and that costs a bundle of money.

That's most likely the cause for these issues.

I've been using it now for about two weeks. It's very light. No problems with speed with WebGuard enabled. Very pleased with this new suite. Only thing that's a little annoying is the firewall pop ups after every re-boot. But as trjam said, a fix is coming soon.

Thanks for the replies trjam and Bunkhouse Buck!

How stable is the beta? Im thinking of giving it a spin on one of my machines.

Will there be a public beta available soon? Or will I have to apply multiple times like everyone else?

Oh and what is system backup? Is that like system restore?

the BETA is VERY stable, not a single hickup here, and for my beta account i only applied once and got an email back within a few hours.

i think system backup is more like paragon or acronis where you backup the system periodically to lets say like an external HD, not like Rollback Rx or FD-ISR. but i dont know for sure since i dont use it.

It's stable but firewall does not remember permissions but will be fixed I assume. Public beta has been available but they have to accept you as a beta tester.

I have not used system backup and I don't install it (you can do a custom install and choose what modules you want). I use Acronis which has never failed me, so no information on Avira backup.

yes firewall is not remembering and emails take too long to come in and i am also finding that when it scans it uses up to 100% cpu usage.
They claim this is to be fixed in the next beta

I love it. I just want the firewall to work correctly. I did not choose that with the custom install after reading the comments here. I also use Acronis, so no backup usage here either.

EDIT: Above is retracted. I had to reboot and when I got back to the desktop, no internet. Removed it, no internet. Went thru hoops and mazes, no internet. Finally it came back after numerous repairs. Not sure what went wrong, but that is the only software installed in days. It caused it and it has since been removed. good riddance.

After a format and clean install, the beta is now running just fine with no problems. Again, no firewall install, all the other modules are installed, including webguard.

Appears to be just fine. and fast. nice n fast.

Yup .. with no firewall it works fine.
    The firewall is buggy
-it is ON, but the System says it is off
-get BSOD (at odd times) with firewall installed, noticable with streaming video
-will not remember applications that you have explicitly told to accept.
-if the PC goes into hibernation, the firewall stops working on restart from hibernation.
-not fully supported for 64bit OS

I am waiting for them to issue another Build for Beta testing, all the above (hopefully) will be fixed.

    Cheers :D

well this can only be fixed if it is reported. so if you did not so till now this would the best step to do now.

Yep, all issues I had logged are fixed. The firewall is cool. Just a FYI, Avira has some really nice stuff on the way. I mean soon to, like HIPS, email plugins for the antispam and a few others that I cant speak of just yet. The Suite is going from what I considered a basic suite, to a very comprehensive one.;)

When they update this beta, does the updater upgrade us to the latest?
