Just noticed new tests of anti-spyware and anti-adware on PCWorlds web site. The tests were conducted by AV-Test.org.

Here are the results with scores:

    95 - Spyware Doctor 5
    81 - AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
    76 - SpySweeper 5.5
    72 - Windows Defender 1.1
    59 - Spybot 1.4

Here's a link to the article and here's a link to a comparative chart.

    Haha!

As a Spyware Terminator employee I am upset see the lack of Spyware Terminator in the comparison.

As a person interested in security in general I am upset to see the lack of the following major antispyware applications in the comparison:
    • Ad-Aware 2007 (?!) (note: the review is for Vista only and Ad-Aware 2007 doesn't support Vista, so they tested it in XP which makes its results not directly comparable)
    • CounterSpy (?!)
    • SUPERAntiSpyware (?!)

And as a person interested in stats in general, I would have liked to see the results from these programs (just for comparison sake):
    • A-Squared
    • CyberDefender
    • McAfee AntiSpyware
    • StopZilla
    • SpyCatcher Express
    • Trend Micro Anti-Spyware
    • XoftSpy SE
    • ZeroSpyware
    • ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware

    Only five programs tested?
I agree it would have been interesting if more programs were tested, particularly SAS,A-Squared,and Spyware Terminator.

    Good read.

The statements at the end are 100% true...if they are still making money, what reason is ,there to abandon ship?

Every so often my mom has me read the Philadelphia Inquirer tech section. And at the bottom of each day's edition they have four Top 10 lists. Three of them are for the top websites in a particular category (media websites, sports websites, search engines, video sites, social networking sites, news sites, etc.) accoding to Nielson Net Ratings; the lists they show rotate every day. The final Top 10 category is always the top commercial software purchased by consumers. Every day, #1 is....*drumroll*...SpySweeper.

Excluding Tax Season, when tax software dominates, SpySweeper is always #1.

The list of none rogue AS progs is even larger then this and it is a darn shame that not all get tested. I really wish more individuals on wilders would stand up for the testing industry by placing more own test results, making tables, website, etc. maybe even cooperate.

Im sure a lot of people (those who collect crap to test) would love to do testing. The problem is that these people are guaranteed to have an allegiance to one program or another. In other words, they probably submit the samples they collect to a program, so testing these samples with this particular program would yield biased results probably near 100%.

If these people were genuinely interested in determining how other programs that arent their favorite perform, then that is OK, but everyone wants to see how THEIR FAVORITE program performs against other programs.

My samples have all been submitted to my Spyware Terminator co-workers for addition to the database. I think I am eliminated from testing :-D.
