Network Security Specialist

    What is a controversey for today's network security specialist? i'm doing a paper on it and i haven't found a topic thats reoccurring so what a better way to find out then someone thats already in the field :) thx in advance

    Thanks buddy that help out a lot DDoS will be my controversy topic :)

    But i have something else i want to know. Right now I know for a fact Network Security Specialist are definitly in demand, but i want get more inside scope of things, like right now i'm on a path to get a degree in Information Technology is that ok or is their a better degree i should be pursuing? what certifications are a must? basically what will prepare me for this career?

    What is your educational background? If you are interested in network security, I suggest you to start educating in descrete mathematics in parallel.

    Right now i'm in my first year of community college

    This is a recurring topic on the security-basics mailing list. Search the archives for references.

    There are different routes. I would skip the vendor certifications and first get a university or college degree. Degrees last a life time, vendor certification only until the next versions. Next you can decide if you want vendor certs or vendor independent certs. Some require work experience and some don't. One of the best known are Global Information Assurance Certification (GSEC) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

    If you want to specialise in network security then GSEC is probably the route to go. See the certification on what they offer on networking.
