A little bit late, but this brings back memories. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/10/14/netscape_navigator_the_browser_that_started_it_all_turns_20/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netscape_Navigator These are the browsers that I have used: Primary browser: 1996-1999: Netscape Navigator 3 + Netscape Communicator 1999-2003: Internet Explorer 5 + Internet Explorer 6 2003-2007: MyIE2 + Maxthon 1 + Maxthon 2 2007-2014: Opera 9 + 10 + 11 + 12 Secondary browser: 2007-2014: Firefox 3 + 4 + 20
Only used it in testing OS/2 and ~7 years ago when I was trying out Opera, Firefox, and Netscape instead of Internet Explorer. Never extensively used it. Was a Firefox lover (Netscape-based) until I converted to Chrome ~3-4 years ago. Never like IE, but hated it less and less these days. Now it's my secondary browser.
I had to dump Netscape, because of the quick startup time of IE, no wonder because it was integrated into Windows. Then I discovered Maxthon, it introduced me to tab browsing and the amazing "super drag and drop" function. Had to dump it because Opera Presto was faster than the Trident engine (super fast cache), plus I liked the "fit to width" function. Haven't looked back since, but too bad Presto is dead now. I never really liked Firefox (didn't even bother to upgrade to new versions), mainly because you needed to add quite some extensions, and even worse, it took 10 seconds to start up and used lots of RAM.
Yes I even remember the first time when I was surfing the web in 1996, I was so fascinated, I think it lasted for 3 hours. And I just loved Netscape, especially the throbber. http://www.techspot.com/blog/81/make-firefox-look-like-the-old-netscape/ http://www.dejavu.org/1995win.htm
