    Hitachi

Approximately 100gb per second for Enhanced Secure Erase.

It appears that Enhanced Secure Erase is mostly available in drives that also have built in encryption.

In order to access Secure Erase or Enhanced Secure Erase you need to fullfill 3 criteria:
    1. Drive must contain the SE or ESE function (7K1000.B does)
    2. Processor must be intel based
    3. You need HDDErase.exe on a bootable media to access the function on the drive

Any of the big players are Good. Fujitsu, Hitachi, WD, Seagate

    for the Hitachi

The only way to ensure a clean install is NIST 800-88.

I prefer Seagate Barracuda drives... but that is just me...

You might verify that your motherboard can handle the 1TB drives before sinking money in it... I have one XP Pro system that I have to unplug my USB drives to boot... but once booted, I can plug them back in... The USB drives are 1TB each...

I should also point out if you are not partitioning the drives, then determine what type of files will be written to it... if tiny text files, then I would go with smaller drives as the larger drives will have larger cluster sizes and you will end up wasting a lot of space...

Typically for a system drive, I will buy a 80GB or 120GB drive and only install the OS and various programs on it while I let a second drive hold my games and a third drive handle my internet cache (although some is still written to the system drive regardless of settings) and an files that I download... My system backups go to the USB drives... a little slow, but it works over night while I am asleep...

Of course, this is only my opinion and not necessarily the correct one...

    Regards -
    -Bob

Yes it depends on what kind of WD disk you will choose.
Black series and RaptorX in desktop drives have 5 year warranty, other have warranty for 3 year.

    You are welcome.

AFAIK, Black v. has 32MB cache, Blue v. has 16MB cache and this is main differences between them. Some people talk that they can change AAM in both version of this drives from software level (tab AAM) but i'm not sure about this on 100%. To be honest I have been thinking about buying 6400aaks drive and I still not decided which drive i should choose, but probably it will be Blue series since differences between Blue and Black are only in cache size. (In my country Black v. has higher price about 37% than Blue which is pretty much for me)

strange in every review seagate 7200.12 the new line is reported to be more fast and trusty
and in the test there are not the new seagate or hitachi

Caviar SE16 640GB Hard Drive is the black version
