 Well, it seems that SP2 was installed without my knowledge(I see four related to SP2 in the "Ad/Remove" list). I really don't understand why this happened since I had the updates configured to notify me, and I did not download it. Another weird thing that's happening now is, when I go to the automatic update page it list SP2 as an update that I still have to install.

I wanted to back up my system before I decided whether I wanted SP2 or not. My question is, can I remove the SP2 updates via "Add/Remove" and have my computer back to normal?? I really don't want SP2-Until I have time to think about it).

Please help me. I don't want this 'thing' on my computer ;)

Thank you for your time and patience.

This is what I believe it wants to install so it can remind you if there are updates available. Just one of the new security add ons from MS.

Okay, but why would SP2 have been installed if I didn't choose to install it, and can I remove it?

    Thanx.

if you had sp2 installed you would not see any windows update entrys unless you intentionally checked the box to see updates.

you can also go to start/my computer/view system information and it will tell you which service pack you have installed.

bigc- I checked, and under System Info it still says Service Pack 1.

ronjor - I did go to that link to check it out before. I just need to know that if I do remove the four SP2 items, will my computer be back to the way it was? (Below is what shows up in my "Add/Remove" list concerning SP2).

It's not that I'm having any great problems with SP2 (besides the update problem and my computer is a little slow), I just want to be able to decide if I want SP2, or anything else. I don't feel I need right now.

Btw, 'System Resore' has never worked for me, but I was told that I need to clear the resore points on a regular basis, but I haven't done so yet. Hopefully the 'add/remove' method will do the trick.

I have no idea when they were installed, so I'm not sure what restore point to use if system restore does work.

Anyway, thank you so much for your suggestions. I really appreciate it. :)

I would set a restore point and give it a try.

before I got sp2 I had some updates that showed sp2 just like those in the screen shot those are just regular win hot fixes. I wouldn't delete them because it will just ask you to install them again.
