    I have a problem with about:blank.

    can not get it off.
I ran ADware, reboot, spybot S&D, reboot, then Hijack This,

in the past I would delete the R0 and R1 file in the list. But it comes back.

    Here is the log.

--Download, unzip (extract) to folder of choice FindAll.zip

    Open folder and run FindAll.bat

--"Output.txt" will enumerate all probable locations
and strings of the 'hidden' files, as well
as the 'bho', to identify the infection.
All previous 'bho' steps can be ignored.

--New string was added to Xfind to try and trap the
new variant, whether 'locked' or not,
and if NOTHING finds it in the report,
    another text file "windows.txt"
will be created in the folder, with the '
    binary' output from Appinit.

Post both the output.txt and (if present) the windows.txt

And let us know if you have:
    - a dual boot system
    - Windows CD
    - or a boot disk

    Regards,

    Pieter

tried to get the winfile from the link
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/show...440&postcount=4

    got this message
HTTP1.1 STATUS 403 Remote Access to this object forbidden This file cannot be directly accessed from a remote site, but must be linked through the Brinkster Member's site.

Any other way to get the file
I assume I need it to do what you are asking
    THanks

    finally got the winfile.
the xxxxx.dll file is gone after doing adware, spybot, hijack.

but the hlpmmd.dll file is hidden in the windows\system32 directory. I have some old dos programs that verify that it is there but I have no way to delete or change the attributes.
Is this the file I need to delete?

    thanks.

I can find the file with an old dos file named looker.exe but I have no way of deleting it. I have tried all sorts of file deleters but none of them can find the file to delete a windows or dos environment.
Do you know of a program or way to delete the file. I have not even found a program that will find the file to even try to change any of its attributes.
Please tell me how to delete this file. hlpmmd.dll.
    Thanks.

    Hi miniski,

First make sure Windows and IE are fully updated.

    Download and unzip: http://www.rokop-security.de/main/download.php?op=getit&lid=59
Then close as many programs as possible and click *Desinfektion starten*

Your computer wil reboot and start with the same program.
Close it and run HijackThis again. Post the new log.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi miniski,

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\eiechj.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\eiechj.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

Then reboot and scan with adAware.

That should do it. (keeping them crossed)

    Regards,

    Piieter
