For years I have used a superb little App. named PPSOFT.DK\Mailcheck on
98se and XP but for some peculiar reason it's gone on the blink and the company is now extinct - Have been using a hopefully temp. thing named 'Mailmoa' instead but it's a rank amateur compared to 'Mailcheck' - Until I can fathom what's gone wrong with the latter I am wondering if anyone can advise re. a worhwhile contender please ?

May want to have a look at this one. Supports 98. Free version only supports one account though.

MICRO, Tucows has an archived copy of PP Mailcheck. Better get it before it goes extinct!

Thanks TZ. - It's a portable which is good, and looks to have anti-spam, well,
I hope they mean in the freeware version - I will try it and see.

Thanks again JRV. - I have several copies stored one of which was working
fine until that good, but PITA AVG, does it's business re. an upgrade of somekind and then I can bet something else, or itself, won't work until I sort it - I've not seen another App. that fiddles and messes so much as AVG, and M$ of course, but for two different reasons.
I can't give either the big A because I've been using them for years and they do a job.

Anyway your Tucows addy. might give me a fresh copy of it - only thing
I wish I could recall re. Tucows - it was a very popular joint many years ago but
then came a load of questions about it and spyware etc. - it's been avoided ever since.

MICRO, you're welcome! FYI, I downloaded PP Mailcheck from Tucows, using FF 3.0.10, without an AVG warning and ran a scan of it:

    2009-05-26_194043.gif

Nothing nefarious as you can see. Yes, AVG 8.0 had a big upgrade to 8.5.339 on May 19th and 2 fixes included MS Outlook:

Outlook: Fixed double prompt on password-protected stores.
Outlook: Fixed possible crash of MS Outlook 2003 on email receiving with MSO enabled.

Don't know if either is the cause of your problem but maybe if you remove and reinstall PP Mailcheck, AVG will mind its manners! ;)

I'm using a neat little app since a couple of years: npop ( http://www.npopuk.org.uk/ ). Has all bells and whistles for me to preview mail from multiple accounts.

I currently have 12 websites with 25 email accounts -- often under heavy flak due to the religious subject matter. I have tried MANY email clients and spam killers. The best, so far -- easiest to use, most secure, most stable, best supported -- is PopPeeper.

If you decide to use PopPeeper, I recommend you also install PPTweaker.

The Peeper & the Tweaker are FREE as the wind. :thumb:

I just wonder if the junk filters that have been in development for many years now will ever actually be implemented?.Because of the lack of them i moved to spamihilator many years ago.

    Hey bg,

A while ago I remember reading one of your posts concerning Pop Peeper. You highly recommended it then and apparently still do.

I took your advice and tried Pop Peeper after previously using eprompter. I would like to thank you for your recommendation.

I have been using Pop Peeper since and love it. Although, I did stray once and tried Koma Mail, but soon came back to Pop Peeper.

    Great little program.

    Anyhow, thanks again.

DasFox posted about COWON America music products in this iTunes replacement thread.

I just noticed COWON makes a free mail monitor utility called jetMailMonitor (I've never used it myself, just adding it to the list).

There is also Junkanoo, which is nice because it's also a Spam eliminator, and it downloads full messages and has an integrated html viewer.
