Uninstall the program and employ one that does not do what Norton does.

sorry man.but honestly, I do not use norton so I do not really know the program. The only thing I can suggest, toggle through GUI settings and maybe somewhere In the settings there would be a option to disable the pop up notification window.

I think you will get a better support at the now new Symantec Forums....

But calling a popup a huge bug is a bit too much.

I have used Norton AV for years, trust me the popups are there to stay. I don't find them to be an annoyance since it is just my security letting me know it is working. I would be more upset if it never showed it was doing something.

I can live with these alerts but not when it appears every five seconds, especially when I play games or see movie:(
Why I called it a bug?Because support guy told me the the same:
But it doesn't works because my lovely pop-ups are still here.

There's a Kaspersky discount going on their site. You get a discount if you give them your current AV licence. Someone here will give you the link.

Get Kaspersky instead. You'll go from having suicidal thoughts to walking around with just your socks on.

I rarely joke and I did not want to demean your question. That said, I have used Norton from the beginning, and there is no way that I know to stop the pop-ups. I use NIS 2008 from time to time, but it is not my first choice since other AVs/Suites run much lighter on my machine.

Only way to stop it is not to use it.

WOW, i thought wilders were support forums, not tell everyone your product sucks forum.

Just as bad as intel vs amd.

Too be honest I believe that Bunkhouse is correct. I had the same experience...could never find out how to turn off that sort of popup. It is nice to know when protection has worked but after the initial flush of using NIS is over it can get tiresome, especially if it is going on every 5 secodsn as stated.

Personally I think that the advice is good...if it is really that annoying and Symantec or the Symantec forum cannot help then perhaps it is time to look at other products.

I think the popups are a real pain in the ass and ruins a pretty good product.... It is one of the common complaints from my new customers: "My norton keeps popping up every x seconds telling me xyz has been blocked...how can I stop it?"

IMHO no excuse for not having an option to turn it off somewhere....it might be reassuring to get feedback that the suite is working but not when you do not want it!

Those are your words- not ours. If uncontrollable pop-ups= product sucks in the mind of the original questioner, then the remedy is obvious- don't use the program. Not that complicated.

Very interesting: only NIS has such option.
Just discovered how many people complain about it.

    Baz_kasp
    Fully agree with you.
It seems I request for a refund:(
Very sad because I really like NAV 2008:fast,light and effective.

Sorry but I don't remember I say Norton sucks. All I asked is how do I get rid of pop-ups and understand why I can't disable it without uninstalling AV.

This is incorrect, Norton 360 2.0 has this option in the Firewall Management module.

I'm running NIS 2008, and I rarely see any popups. In fact, I like to see one every once in a while so that I know it's working.:D

I had just a few. It depends a lot on who is using the keyboard.
