    Hi Problemfinders,

i've got norton antivirus 2006 (german edition) and when i update it via liveupdate, there's always one thing left it cant install. (watching image) Its possible to download from server but ive got problems with installing. (liveupdate does installing automatically after download) .

One more thing, i cant explain, is taht i should download a update in english although im using a german version. o_O I also did a online virus scan and searched for spyware, but there was nothing special found. :(

    Can somebody help?

p.s. I should say that a used NAV 2005 before in english, but it was completely uninstalled (included reg_entries manually) before i installed the new version. Im sure. But there could be something left

In your screenshot there is listed an error message in German, can you or anyone read that and provide a rough translation? Also [I think] there is a link to click on, can you please click on the link and then post the link here? It is a link to Symantec Knowledge Base article. Thanks .. that would be helpful to troubleshoot your problem. ;)

When you uninstalled, did you cleanout everything? Also, when you try to reinstall, make sure you use MSConfig or similar utility to UNcheck everything running at startup, then reboot into a clean environment without anything running in the background, so that your reinstall will be totally clean. If that doesn't fix the problem, dunno, maybe try other software. Usually a totally clean install will fix the problem; only other thing I wonder about is that you are using a German edition of the product but I would think that should not matter. Good Luck! ;)

I cleaned out everything. I did the complete uninstall (once with preferences -> software and more times with the uninstall program 'Symnrt.exe' ). After that (reboot the system), i deleted every file i found with norton or symantec and i searched for this words in registry and deleted some keys, too. - And i must have missed some files or keys, but i can't found them if there still exists.

have exactly the same problem :
    "Detail":
Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2
    NAVNT 2006 12.0.0.94

    nice message...

ten reinstallings and total cleenings ( includes winfaxpro and pcanywhere ---a lot of time...) : no result

there are some (6?) registry entries ,ccapp..`al last and they`re not to delete or to change.

    I think this the problem.

OK hang in there, we are getting desperate by now. :D Here is another suggestion, you can try the Locked Files Wizard:

    Get it Here: http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=misc

You can use that program to delete files and folders which won't let you delete them in normal mode of Windows.

I am thinking there may be some last-gasp "defense mechanism" in the leftover remnants of the program which are blocking your ability to delete the regentries, so maybe if you can finally purge your system of the ccapp etc. you can then delete the regentries and have a totally clean environment.

Don't forget, before attempting a reinstall, to use MSConfig and UNCheck everything extra that is starting when Windows starts up, then reboot. That eliminates extra processes running in the background which could interfere. Once you have your product reinstalled and running properly, THEN you can go back and reCheck those items in MSConfig.

Good Luck; we are trying to help, I understand it is frustrating. If it has not been too long since you purchased your product, Symantec will refund your money {I forgot what the grace period is, I think it is 60 days within the date of purchase}. It always saddens me to see anyone struggling with a problem they cannot solve with software they want to use.

If you are comfortable working in the registry I can tell you how to remove the legacy symantec entries. I have done it many times with many different product legacy entries. Including norton/symantec.
