I am thinking about building my own NAS Server at some point in the future.

What are some of the general steps for setting up one after you have installed/connected all of the hardware? What are the options for a Server OS and how would you typically install the OS if your Server does not have a CD/DVD drive? My Server Hardware would most likely be something like the following:

    Thanks in Advance.

    Hello,
    I would install freeNas
its a special configred version of freebsd for nas boxes.
you can install it using a usb pen if you wish to.
btw freenas can run from a compact flash card.
once installed you access it using a web GUI by typing the IP address in to your browser.
