I rather respect Nano's intension to keep the AV in beta testing as long as possible. Atleast we can say that in the stable build it will not be as nearly as crappy as ZenOK is (which had no public beta build).

No, we just plan to release 0.16.0.0 version to summer (in May I hope). There will be many changes and some new functionality in that new version.

Re: NANO AntiVirus has received OPSWAT Certification

Nano is an early beta version of a brand new Antivirus app. As such, I would assume that their main concentration is on fundamentals such as: (1) getting proper functioning of the GUI & the scanner, (2) identifying & dealing with any conflicts between Nano & other popular programs, (3) getting Nano to function well with Win7 AS WELL AS legacy Windows systems, (4) getting Nano to be as light as possible in terms of system resources, surfing speed, etc, (5) attaining high degree of self-protection -- & so forth.

Working on signatures & heuristics must also be done, of course, but the programmatic factors, such as those listed above, would usually take higher priority. Experienced beta testers are generally aware of these facts. Those who want mature/tested protection might want to avoid betas & instead use existing AVs -- rather than expecting early betas to function at RC levels with respect to detection, cleaning, etc.

The technical preview of a new version of NANO AntiVirus

We are glad to present to the most inquisitive users the result of the hard work of our team during last months. It is the technical preview of the long-awaited 0.16 version of NANO AntiVirus. We are announcing this preview as the 0.15 version.

The new version is a considerably revised and supplemented product. Particularly the core of program was changed almost completely, the new functionality was added and the current features were optimized.

    New in the 0.15 version

    * Added a scanner of web-traffic.
    * Considerably changed the update mechanism.
    * Changed the procedure of installation and uninstallation.
    * Optimised scanning of some types of files (e.g. autorun.inf and archive files).
    * Improved the System Guard operation.
    * Optimized the ram usage by GUI.
    * Optimized and stabilized the product in whole.

Attention! This version is unappropriated for publication on third-party resources as an official version! It is laid open to public inspection only!

I gave it a spin and detection seems to be quite good. It also feels very light. Looks like they are moving to the right direction...

Thank you for testing of this version. Can you provide us with any info, for example the name of threat (i mean which threat name was assigned to explorer.exe) or if it possible to send us logs?
I would like to remind again that this version is something like "alfa" of a completely new version, so there are bugs we need to fix.
Thank you again for your help:)

I hope that someone makes another video review of it since the last one was from a year or so ago.

I like how this program makes a lot of improvements over time even it's build only advances slowly. This way when the final build (1.x) is released it will be as stable as possible.

Unlike some other AVs out there that put a whole new build every year, but only provide minor changes and new gui (Avira even skipped a whole version, going straight from 10.x to 12.x).

I tried this AV again few days back and found few problems that were long addressed. Like RAM usage. Long installation time, Buggy Updater progress bar.

    Tried Nanao AV again:cool:

    installtaion file size 103MB
    installation was quicK.
Didnt start itself.. i started manually from "Start"
First update stuck at 99% (33mb/20mins in a 2Mbps connection) and took 30 minutes for remaining 1 %..
High ram Usage 140-150MB(nanosvc.exe), nearly 362 mb(nanoav.exe) while updating..100% CPU
    splash screen cannot be disabled...

    I tested 140 malwares against Nano .. it detected 111 files ..
    failed to detect 29 files..
then i executed these 29 files... Nano AV detected the files downloaded by these but failed to detect these 29..

It detected Autorun eater as malware which is a FP..

Webguard didnt do anything.. it didnt block malicious web pages...

    Testing Evironment:
    Windows xp
    Intel celeron 1GHz 512MB RAM..

nikanthpromod, could I ask to send logs to us? Please use "Start->All programs->NANO AntiVirus->Send logs to support".
As well please send to us those 29 files to virus@nanoav.ru (please archive them with the pass '123').
    Thank you in advance.
We checked Autorun eater, really it looks as FP, guess we will fix it in one of nearest base issue.
As for webguard, it don't block any malicious sites yet, at this stage it is only web scanner, it check files which are downloaded from the net. To be sure it works, please try to download the standard eicar test file.
