EDIT maybe his home page has been hacked o_O VVV lol. tell your daughters to use strong passwords - over 9 letters with mixed case letters and numbers.

you could go and ask leo laporte what he does, he has teenage daughters. i think i remember him saying there was a program coming out or he was about to do something to monitor what his daughters did, something like that anyway.

I'm sure your children will be fine Nat - I bet they're regularly hugged & mothered almost to screaming point. Not the sort of kids that are likely to fall into the emotional reassurance traps set by predators.

Still - no point in going mad & trusting them completely - little blighters have developed a code all of their own :D

a/s/l (age, sex, location) make sure you prepare them for this one Nat.

Then once they've learnt the ropes the only thing left to do is prepare yourself - for a whole new set of acronyms:-

    pos (parents over shoulder)

    p911 (parents are coming)

    ctn (can’t talk now)

On the whole what I've worked out so far is that it's probably all gonna work in 4 stages:-

Stage1 - Parents worry about what might happen in chat rooms
Stage2 - Kids worry that you might find out what really happens in chat rooms
Stage3 - Everyone agrees never to talk about what happens in chat rooms
Stage4 - They have their own kids and with some quiet satisfaction you refer them back to stage1.

 Is there a way to "work undercover" and report those creeps somewhere ?
Aren't there people that monitor the sites to protect the kids ??!

    Thanx for the article, ronjor.

Really interesting how much reading material of that site is available.....

Glad you think of me that way...and the kids will be ok.
But no matter how much you ...err...lovingly smother them (lol)...i think it's just best and easiest to just chain them up...what do you think ? ;) ;) ;)

    Hehe

I think eventually they'd escape, sell the chains and use the money to get into more trouble - oh to be a teenager again ......hehe.

I think some of the rooms that yahoo have allowed should have caused an Internet fury at least as loud as the one the SonyDRM caused.

I think we all know that the idea is that the computer should be placed in a family area & regulated. We also know that even if we do that, they have other ways of finding Internet access - school, friends etc. So we have to assume they might find their way into an unregulated area.

I think if its and buts were candy & nuts we'd have Christmas everyday.

I think until then we just have to do our best for those we are charged to try and keep safe. When we can, fill their heads with tips & tricks and know they'll stamp their feet shouting the phrase 'I know what I'm doing' just before the door slams behind them......

I think ultimately if you can't bribe them - you'll guilt-trip them into being careful - hehe the ultimate Mum tool.

    I think you'll be ok :)

    Just an observation.

There are sites like wayn.com where it says you have to be at least 18 years old to register (http://www.wayn.com/wayn.html?wci=register&id=&kw=)), but it has been known for teenagers younger than that to sign up and fake their age in the process in order to take part.

    It's a strange world. :/

The late night news has just advised that a sixteen (16) girl has gone missing.....after meeting up with an "older man" on the "myspace" website..........her mother also found e mails between her and a twenty-one (21) year old man expressing her desire to have his baby....( she was secretly meeting him and having sex)........

I have been a MySpace member for almost 2 years, maybe even more,I joined when it wasn't as famous as it is now.It can be a cool place just to chit chat with other members,it also can be a very dangerous place for Young teens to hang out.But that still never makes it a bad place, everyone has to use common sense when going to these places to chit chat, which we know many teens don't have yet(common sense that is).Myspace can get your computer infected if it isn't up to par with all its defenses,I only know this as I have been testing out Virri and other vermin on the site and reporting it to the MySpace staff, there are many exploitable codes if uses in right combination it also can cause harm, but many go there to have fun and don't go there with my mind set:ninja: .Anyhow,I wouldn't allow my Teens onto the site,as they can possibly encounter pornography on peoples pages, having a program that blocks this doesn't always work as many users will post naked pictures of themselves on their page.I recommend using caution and keeping a close eye on your child while playing on the MySpace playground.

    CEO: MySpace.com to bolster security
Popular social networking Web site with 60 million members plans to enhance effort to prevent crime, chief executive says.
    March 3, 2006: 9:19 AM EST

BOSTON (Reuters) - MySpace.com, the online virtual community run by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., will soon screen how its 60 million members use the Web site in an effort to prevent crime, the company's chief executive said Thursday.

He discussed the enhanced security plan in an interview, several hours after federal authorities announced the arrests of two men charged with using MySpace to arrange illegal sexual encounters with minors.
