I have had this happen with 3 laptops and this is my second laptop charger for this laptop, same thing happened with my last charger!!!!!! I take very good care of my chargers and equipment. Why are Dell laptop chargers so ****tyo_O Do I have to get a 3rd laptop charger or can I go get a 3rd party laptop charger that is more sturdy??

I called Dell and I'm getting a replacement. I'm wrapping the wire in duct tape now.

I have had a few laptops and I don't think DELL ac-dc adapters are any worse (or better) that others. The cord typically flexes between the jack and the filter thingy, and that's the area where problems occur more often than not. I came across a spring that fits snugly between the outer diameter of the molded jack (plug) and the filter thingy, which seems to do a good job of relieving the stress in that area.

    Hi cheater87,
Have you considered a "universal" power adapter? I have been using the iGo Juice 70 for several years and couldn't be happier with its relibility and fleibility to use it with every Laptop I have owned to date:

And the link to thier latest models:
