I just though it was strange that only my PIC folder is the only one having the slow down problem. Music, Docs, Video, ProgramFiles, Windows, System32, My 500GB Mybook (with 300GB used) are all unaffected.

All MSE versions work fine except the newest beta. Strange.

Mine was a little slow also but I downloaded a new beta yesterday and seems to be faster than the earlier ones. Maybe they got it fixed. Hopefully anyway.

Is the beta supposed to auto update definitions ?
As since installing I have had to manually update daily.

It should auto-update by itself; if you are having problems try the tweak/registry hack. It will then pick up 2-3 updates/day by itself.

I tried the reg hack and still no update on my Vista 32 home pc. However, it was updating correctly on my wife's XP 32 Home. I tried just about everything and it does not want to update. I gave up and moved onto another AV. It's a shame because I liked this AV.

In contrast, since I applied the reg-hack, it's performed auto-updating without a hitch on my Vista 32-bit Laptop. Go Figure :p

Thanks very much for the tip.
However i noticed on the 'problem machine' that the BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer) service was disabled.
I'll monitor over next few days and see what happens now BITS is on auto.

BITS needs to be on for the updater to work. This might fix it for you. Strange thing is, the original beta that came out some 8 months ago, updated perfectly. When they came out with the 2nd beta and current releases, the updating stopped. It's probably some registry entry that is causing havoc.
