Re: Mozilla Firefox 4.0 RC1 Beta out

Updated to RC1 from Beta12. Update was offered. It feels a lot faster
and looks prettier than other versions of Firefox. Those that use Firefox
sandboxed are going to like this version, even cold starts are better
    than before.

Count me as one who doesn't like this version. Sandboxed is slower than before for me when starting, and the browser overall feels slower.

The cold start is still annoyingly slow for me. Parts of the UI could use a little extra padding as well.

And I wish they could have designed their addon functionality to work more like Chrome's. I've been spoiled by how slick adding something to Chrome is.

Other than that, the important parts seem to be working well.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 4.0 RC1 Beta out

Just installed it on my pc, and it looks a bit awkward for me...the make over is a bit different so I have to practice a little bit to get used to it. The browsing speed is very noticeable...I think it really got some improvements under the hood. :thumb:

I was a bit lucky, I choose custom installation...I haven't upgrade my Firefox v3.6.15 to V4 RC when it ask to, instead, I made another folder just for Firefox 4 RC. It still has many incompatibilities to many of my add-ons of which I think are very important to me. Now I have two Firefox. Just imagined if I've upgraded my Firefox...I would not be able to use ScrapBook Plus anymore. Gacks...:argh:

Hope incompatibility issues to many of the add-ons will be resolved fast.

Overall, this version works great.

I wish somebody would please edit the title of this thread.

Mozilla Firefox 4.0 RC should be enough. The beta is a MajorGeekism that isn't needed.

lol i guess u culd call it slick, but thats only because the add-ons are etremely limited in comparison, but mozilla is working on restartless addons, thers already some add ons that dont require a restart (not many tho)

Where do you see font rendering issues?

I had font issues also. You can go into about:config and find 'gfx.direct2D.disabled' and toggle it to True (and restart). That fixed my problem.

Sorry about your troubles, my cold star sandboxed is ....about 3 seconds.
Now, I only use 3 addons and that can make a difference on cold starts.
If you use a bunch, that could be it.
I just updated SBIE to the latest Beta, probably should make SBIE work
    better with the new FF.

I, pretty much, made the UI look like the old one but I like the silvery
color that it has now better than the one before with colored items in
the navigation toolbar. I think, like you say, the important parts are
    working fine.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 4.0 RC1 Beta out

I've got Noscript, ABP and BetterPrivacy (which I'm likely to remove if I stay with FF) as my choice extensions, and then that annoying "test pilot" which doesn't shut up. So that's only 4, but perhaps. I've cut down a lot from my old days of extension hoarding. But yeah, the start-up is pretty darn slow.

My addons are NS, ABP and Video downloader. You can get rid of the test
pilot. Go to addons and uninstall it.

Hi Bo, I wouldn't get rid of the Test Pilot. IIRC it can be set to do its thing automatically without prompting. We just need to set it up when the pop-up appears. Should help the devs in whatever way we can :)

The devs need to tone down Test Pilot's behavior then. After it grabbed focus from another full-screen app even while Firefox was minimized (should be around b7, IIRC), I took care to manually circumcise it from all my Fx4 installations.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 4.0 RC1 Beta out

Test Pilot is indeed very annoying. Removed it here as well.

No issues at all with Firefox 4 RC1.

But there is room for improvements. Cold start, for example, needs to be better. But maybe I have too many extensions. Here goes the list:
    - Adblock Plus
    - DownThemAll!
    - Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus
    - LiveClick (this extension is great)
    - OPML Support

Firefox 4 RC hardware acceleration is also near absent. Very far from what the full hardware acceleration present in IE9 RC is able to do: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/...vg-across-browsers-with-santa-s-workshop.aspx

Okay, so..mystery theater here, lol. Firefox RC1 crashed on me, so I did what I normally do, restart it in Sandboxie. I find the bookmarks bar is gone, I find my addon buttons gone, the drop-down menu for FF settings gone. I close it out, start it out of the sandbox...and the damn thing tells me it's Firefox 3.6? I don't have the slightest clue what happened. After my other problems, that just ticked me off to no end and I uninstalled the stupid thing. I'm back on it now, and now it seems even slower in rendering a lot of things and loading pages. What have they gone and done?

The nice thing is, that crazy TestPilot is not in the install file that you get directly from Mozillas' website. The bad thing is, I'm now going to have to get every bookmark back I had and whitelist more websites than I care to think about at the moment, in NoScript again. *bangs head hard on desk*

I haven't got issue with cold start with FF in sandboxie. But still suffering of memory leak, HUGE leak. Some time I opened only 2 tab which one tab is images site, another is youtube, and experiencing the memory increased to 500,000k.

Re: Mozilla Firefox 4.0 RC1 Beta out

All of the betas installed in separate folders and did not replace FF 3.6xx. I don't know for sure if it's the same for the new release candidate. If you're thinking of replacing 3.6 with FF4RC then go ahead and install it. It will inherent the profile settings and extensions. If it doesn't overwrite 3.6 then you can keep using it or uninstall it separately.

Many extensions are now compatible, but if you have any you can't do without you might want to post a list. Some extensions are still labeled incompatible, but actually work fine. To use them you have to disable the compatibility checker, which is easy to do.

The RC installs as though it were a final version. There are no separate folders or beta text of any kind.

Im finding 4 really good and fast.I know that the beta was supposed to install to different folders and not be in anyway connected to firefox 3 ,but after a few problems i totally uninstalled 3 ,and 4 ,reinstalled 4 from scratch and its much better behaved and speedier than when 3 was ,also installed.I dont know why?

Does anyone has any issues watching Youtube videos in FF4 RC? 50% of the times the video is getting garbled. Even in chrome i'm facing similar issues but less reproducible.

Only IE8 is working properly. Any clues?
