I think it's crazy having to download add-ons to make firefox how it should be and not a Chrome clone (hamburger button). An add-on to bring back the add-on bar??

How it "should be"? From the beginning it's been one of Firefox's strengths that it can be customized extensively. Each person can make it look and work the way they want it to.

I don't know if using Stylish is the only way. I just discovered it when I was playing with various Firefox themes and UI mods.

If readability of tabs is the issue, I changed the tab background color with Tab Mix Plus.

I'm playing with FF29 + Classic Theme Restorer to setup a "two toolbars at top, one toolbar at bottom" arrangement. Attachment shows my layout right now. In between tabs on the left and some toolbar items on the right is the Bookmarks Toolbar Items with four folders. Which acts like four drop down menus for different categories of links. This seems to work fine including across fully closing and restarting Firefox. Yet, eventually something happens and the Bookmarks Toolbar Items are moved to the Bookmarks Toolbar. Which is hidden and thus they effectively just disappear. I haven't yet zeroed in on what is causing this, and more importantly, whether there is some way to prevent it from happening. Has anyone else run into something similar with the Bookmarks Toolbar Items and/or have ideas?

The rounded tabs in T-Bird don't bother me one iota, rather pleasant actually.

I once had problems with bookmarks disappearing from the toolbar. I think the file/index was corrupt or something. Perhaps you can export your bookmarks, delete that file and import them again?

I just got finished updating all my machines to FF29. Clean installs, and when it came to the UI, each one was configured individually (no copying of profiles). Every one has this behavior. I'll play around with exports/imports, and also play around with a portable version that doesn't have all these extensions. Maybe I'll hit on something or at least come to understand it. Thanks for the suggestion BoerenkoolMetWorst.

I don't like it at all. The domain highlighting in FF is enough IMO.

I'm increasingly reminded of the movie called 2081...
Worth a watch, IMO. It seems with each passing month there is some new occasion of "dumbing down" something so that it matches the "level" of the average user. Everyone "more advanced" is forced to endure this dumbing down or find a way to strip away the limiting aspects. Some of which require significant time to work around, if not custom software or hardware development. Even those that don't have a way of adding up and wearing you down.

    That was my impression too

    Speaking of rounded tabs

    My impression on Firefox 29.0

    - Liked the change a lot and didn't install any new addons to change the look

    - All my existing addons worked fine

    - It was more responsive and started faster for me

    - Overall, it was a step forward

Firefox 29.0.1 is on Majorgeeks and Softpedia, but not coming through the internal updater yet. Changelog not available yet.

Edit: Now available via the internal updater. Also Calomel SSL Validation extension is updated to 0.72

MrBrian I have been using TMP for years and cannot find the place to change tab background color. Can you tell me where it is?

Some are reporting telemetry is re-enabled by default in this release.
In order to make your data submission choices view them via the below Mozilla KB Article.

Telemetry was still disabled but crash reporter was ticked even though I had it unticked in FF 29 so the 29.0.1 turned that back on.
