Maybe they have improved upon things as I had an issue in the past with their location services. It either did not work, or if it did, the location was not even close by. I did not realize that they even had a paid version.
I hope so. FYI I installed the trial a short while ago. Now to figure out the SMS commands lol. Will report back. I guess there is always Avast if this does not work as good.
Hello Trooper, As has already been answered, still only SMS, no web console/browser. I asked ESET about this way back on September 3 and cannot get a response. Thread here: -https://forum.eset.com/topic/885-web-console-in-version-2/ . No way to tell if they plan to add a web console or not since they will not answer. Maybe more responses and people asking and wanting that feature in that thread would illicit some response from ESET. Other than the lack of a web console, I really like this product. Adding it would make it perfect for me...
Hi Puff! Long time no see. I am glad to see another happy ESET mobile AV for Android user here. But I think they really need to add this and get away from the SMS commands. I will gladly add my two cents into that thread so thank you for the link. Question, what does one have to do to get the SMS commands to locate the device? Once found, does it email you its location? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
Hello, Under "Anti-Theft" you must set up "Trusted Friends" using their mobile number, and it will SMS the information to your friends phone. Correction: It will send the SMS to whatever device sent the SMS locate command. The "Trusted Friends" is only for alerts pertaining to SIM card swapping.
Excellent just set it up to my wife's phone number. So then I guess from any mobile device I text a command and it sends my phone's location to my wife's phone? Was is the command to text to test this out? Thanks puff!
Thank you it worked with no issues. Now they need to add a web interface and a scream function to find a missing phone. Similar to what other av products for Android are doing.
The paid version was launched just like 2 months ago, the free version has almost all the features such as AV, Firewall, Anti-theft . . . except these ones: -Unlimited App Lock (Allows you to set a custom password for specific applications like your gallery, settings, play store and anything you want. The free version has a limit of 2 or 3 apps while the paid is unlimited) -GPS Geofencing -Avast! Backup -Privacy Advisor (More detailed information about apps permissions and ads) -Password Lock (Automatic front camera image capture when screen password is incorrect 3 times) Another reason i like Avast! is that it offers both web interface and SMS commands to control your cellphone remotely. Also it offers your LOTS of commands features either through SMS or the web interface. Just take a look at this: Avast! Mobile Security SMS Commands If you want more details just ask. I may sound like a salesman LOL Just my personal opinion, i prefer having both methods available (SMS and Web interface) reason is sometimes data coverage is spotty in certain areas and i trust more the SMS commands than the web interface BUT the web interface is easier to use and when you locate your device you can use Google Maps.
I'm now running 360 mobile security & MBAM mobile on my rooted HTC One Very light and looks awesome which is always a bonus
What is GPS Geofencing? Also how accurate is the location finding aspect of the product? I may consider it even though I am trying out Eset at the moment. Thanks.
Its a feature where you set a perimeter where your phone should be, if your phone is taken out of the perimeter, Avast! will automatically lock your phone, set your phone as lost and warn you. GPS accuracy depends on the phone and the location IMO. With my S3 its very accurate and fast but there are some phones with crappy GPS like the S1.
Thanks man sounds pretty nice. I may try it again down the road by still rocking Eset Mobile Security on my Moto X. Doing well so far.
That sounds nice, but do any anti theft features work when both GPS and data usage are disabled. I have my GPS always turned off, and only ever turn on data when I went to get on Facebook or download or update apps, and then turn it off again.
Yes it does, if im not mistaken theres an option to auto enable GPS even if its turned off and it does it invisibly which means the GPS icon wont show up in the notification bar. Not so sure about the data though BUT you still have your old trusty SMS Commands which i prefer due to spotty data coverage in some areas where i live.
ASUS Android Tablet: I just noticed that Avast stopped updating malware signatures in November. I tried to manually update the malware signatures several times, but Avast kept freezing. I uninstalled and reinstalled Avast, but I still had the same problem. So I just switched to ESET. Initially ESET had some trouble establishing an Internet connection to get malware signature updates, but eventually the malware signatures were updated.
@TheKid7, For me it updates every single day, often more than once. Current update is 131226-01. Something is wrong in your system. If I were you I'd post your observation or question on the avast forum http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=37.0 tell them the exact device model, avast version, last update you saw, etc.
