It is in root of C: drive. How much data are you going to exclude?
And to remove the page file or move it to another drive right click on My Computer - Properties - Advanced System settings - Performance - Settings - Advanced.

Re: Stuck on "Calculating copy size..."

I'm excluding about 80% of 82GB I only want to migrate the OS,users and program files. It stayed on the "calculating copy size" for over an hour.

Where do I move the swap file to? or do I need to do that.

You can also turn off your swap file through the same menu. I had two drives on my system already so I just moved it.

It took 44 minutes to move about 50gb of data. I'm not home so I can't reboot to verify it was successful but it's looking promising.

Re: Stuck on "Calculating copy size..."

I'm guessing the problem is that it doesn't take into account the page file or the hibernation file when it lets you select which folders to transfer. By removing those two they won't come into play durring the transfer process.

Re: Stuck on "Calculating copy size..."

Thanks. I turned both off. I'm making another system image now. Then I'll restore to a clean HHD. Boot from it and clean the SSD and then try again. Too bad each of these steps can be a few hours.

    SSD config / setup

Is there a preferred way to use an SSD? Is it best to have only the OS on it or put as much as you can on it?

I'm thinking to put the OS,USERS, Documents & Settings, program files and frequently used programs not in program files. All other data would stay on the HHD

    Is there a better way?

Maybe a guide could be added to the 3 page manual

    Thanks

Migrate OS to SSD is fine

Successfully migrate Win 7 Ultimate to another HD. Interface user friendly. Clear program dialogs. Very smooth migration. :)

    Re: SSD config / setup

Best if you have only OS on it. In this case you use SSD drive for read operations in most cases and thus prolong its life.

    Good plan.

    No.

We will consider this in further development of the tool.

Normally it does not take such long to exclude files from copy. Looks like you have many files in small chunks and estimation of them plus working over the file exclusion takes much time. Be patient a bit.

Re: Ok I don't think is working

Hello Doug and Oxford_Al, could you please give more details on the amount data you were trying to exclude? What type of files and what is the common size them?
And most important - how many files there are to be excluded?
It would be nice to get log data from you both as well.
Many thanks for your patience and cooperation.

Re: Crash in win7 ult 64

    Hello Mike,

I just confirmed with developers that migration of OS to vhd drive is not the functionality of this tool and thus has never been tested.
The utility is live hard drives (SSD and HDD) oriented and proper work of it on virtual machine not guaranteed.

Could you please tell us the size of data you want to exclude and common size of the files? How many files there are in sum?
Also your latest logs were not published here. Please post them or open a support ticket in our online support service. You can send log data via it.

Re: Ok I don't think is working

    Hi Paragon_MA
I did uncheck a lot of program files because I just wanted to move the OS and then add programs as necessary. My HDD with Win 7 installed on it currently has around 250Gb used and so moving to a 60Gb SDD was obviously going to require some pruning! Would be happy to provide you with a log file, but where would I find that and would it exist seeing as I had forced the program to close?
To ensure a clean move of the OS do I just need to check the Program files/Windows directory and do I need to include the config files etc that reside on the C: drive?
Thanks for any extra info re: the above.
    Regards
    Alan

    70 GB to migrate

OK, Last night I wiped out the SSD and started over. This time I started the program and selected what to migrate. When it got to the "Calculating Copy Size" Screen I went to bed after a couple hours. This morning it said it was going to migrate 70gb and I need to restart my computer. I restarted and it went to a Paragon DOS like screen. After an hour I went to work. Maybe it will be done by the time I get home today.

I understand this is beta software but it needs to work much much faster. When I did a full copy it took only 18 minutes

I'll report on the status as I can
    Thank you

I understand. Just wish there was a message that said this may take a few hours or some progress bar with time. I know its beta software and these thins will be added in time.
    Thank you

Re: Ok I don't think is working

Continuing last post. Got home and everything looked ok. The message said to change boot drive in BOIS which I did. It still booted off the HHD. So I unplugged the HHD and booted off the SSD....NO OS installed.......:gack:

Hooked back up the HHD and booted into windows. Checked the SSD with Paragon Hard Disk Manager and it said the SSD was not even Formated.:thumbd: :thumbd: :thumbd:

Sorry but this is totally useless to me. I'll just do a fresh windows install and be done with it.

Re: Ok I don't think is working

the "copy" works and is FAST but if you "exclude any files" plan on spending hours and then is DOES NOT WORK. No OS or partition on SSD if you look at the SSD with Hard Drive Manager 2010.

The fastest best way to move to a SSD is COPY all using the migration OS-SSD. Then use a FREE program call "app mover" to move all programs/ directories / files ect.. that you tried to exclude in the first place with OS-SSD to the HDD of your choice....This takes about an hour total. It also fixes the registry so Windows knows were you moved things too.

AND ITS FREE..........IT WORKS and ITS FAST compared to the Paragon software.

Sorry I really wanted this to work out but with the little feed back....supper slow, unacceptability slow software, I have to look for a better way.

I found it and its FREEWARE

I know its beta but if this is a big companies best shot at beta...........I feel sorry for you. If you want my log file please email me...make the effort and send me an email and I will gladly send them to you. I'm wasting no more time on this sorry

Migrate OS to SSD 10.0.15 hangs at calculating copy size

    Configuration 1:
Intel i7 quad, 2.6 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Windows 7 64-bit (US English).
Source hard disks: internal 750 GB 4-disk RAID5 with dedicated controller (Promise)
Destination: internal 32 GB IDE OCZ SSD

I bought a new SSD, explicitly for testing this Migrate OS to SSD SW. It was never used before, but worked perfectly: I could read and write data there. So I went ahead with testing the new Paragon SW.

After the welcome screen I received a warning message, that the destination disk will lose all its data. I clicked on Next.

The SW started to analyze my system, and automatically selected the destination drive (there was just one drive other than the boot disk) and told me that there was not enough space on the target for everything (360 GB data) on my source drive.

I then chose to select which directories to copy in the next "Change copy options" window. I selected only the Windows directory, 19.6GB, because I wanted to migrate the OS to the new disk, not other programs or data.

It would also be useful to get a button for going back a screen, but the SW has none.

I have hundreds of directories, which have to be manually deselected. It is quite a tedious task, which could be improved with buttons for "select all", "deselect all", and allowing Shift click to de/select a series of directories/files from the highlighted one to the directory under the cursor.

The next window tells that the SW is "Calculating copy size..."

Unfortunately, the Migrate OS to SSD program hangs there. It only shows rotating tear drops, but does not finish in 4 hours. I tried with unformatted destination disk and formatted one, with the same result.

Then I tried to close the program, but it only told that it was not safe to close, and it would close as soon as possible. It continued to show the rotating tear drops, but never quit. At least not in another couple hours. I had to shut it down from the Task Manger, which told me that part of the Paragon SW is not responding, but finally killed it.

    Then I tried another system

    Configuration 2:
    Intel Core 2 duo, 3 GHz, 8 GB RAM, Windows 7 64-bit.
Source hard disks: internal 150 GB SATA
    Destination: internal 1.5 TB SATA

Again, I only wanted to move the Windows directory to the new disk. Everything repeated as in Configuration 1: the Migrate OS to SSD program hanged at Calculating copy size... I had to use Task manager the kill the not responding SW.
