On my one PC with IE8 installed I have been unable to install a Windows Update ActiveX Add-on. IE8 freezes when I get to the page containing the ActiveX Add-on. The IE8 error message detail says that DEP (Data Execution Prevention) is preventing the ActiveX Add-on from being installed. I made an exclusion for DEP for iexplore.exe but that did not help. My regular Windows Update works but not the Microsoft Office Update part of Windows Update.

The URL where I get this problem can be reached by clicking on the "Microsoft Update" just under the "Updates" at the left side of the page under "Downloads Home":

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/default.aspx

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any ideas on what to do to fix the problem?

    Thanks in Advance.

Never used any settings any different than the default DEP settings but I have dealt with a similar issue before (not same error message but could not load the ActiveX control.) Clearing the Temp Internet Files and restarting the browser worked for me...
