    That is a bit misleading as it is not the "final secutity patch". It is actually the successor of SP4 as Microsoft decided against calling it SP5 for some reason. Microsoft will continue to offer security patches until 2010.
    IE7 will however not come for Win2k as some of the security mechanisms rely on operating system functionality in XPSP2 that is not trivial to port back to Windows 2000.

    what about xp will microsoft release sp3 for xp ?

    With XP SP2 and W2K3 SP1 just released I expect all efforts go towards releasing Longhorn in time.
