Nero 7 do not use NET framework (if I remember correctly).
    For photoshop cs3 I don't remember.
If you do not get any errors from your applications, you can skip it. It does not contain any security enhancements.

I updated/installed Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 via Windows Update and noticed the following folder (w/ 2 sub folders) that was created.

Is this just a TEMP folder (contains some dll, gpd + ppd files) and is it SAFE to delete or is it necessary to keep as part of .Net Framework 3.5?

    Thanks.

What? 3.5 isn't needed for Nero/Roxio/PhotoShop w/e. Almost everything uses 2.0. The ONLY app I've seen so far that uses 3.5 is AutoCAD.

CDBurner XP Pro also uses it in its latest version.

@Birdman: These folders I have too now after the update. It's for a XPS printer driver (added during the update) in Printers and Faxes (using dutch version here so wording may be a bit different!), the 'Microsoft XPS Document Writer'.

Basically, .NET Framework is a collection of libraries/frameworks (precoded classes) that can perform (or simplify) many real-world programming tasks. It also includes a virtual machine to execute the code written specifically for .NET. If you notice, it is quite similar to Java (which it is).

Some applications require .NET to be installed in order to function properly.

Until early this week, I had only been running .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0. I saw that 2.0 had a new service pack 2, so I downloaded and installed it. I then learned that if you update 2.0 to SP2, you can no longer run Paint.NET without .NET Framework 3.5 installed (apparently 2.0 is a part of 3.5 and 2.0 SP2 makes that relationship even tighter.)

So I ended up rolling back to my image I made before 2.0 SP2, downloaded the large redistributable file of 3.5 SP1 and installed it. It made 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 fully up to date and Paint.NET now runs just fine...
