    Although I always install it, I've never bothered adding it to my security setup, because it's basically part of Windows.

    Is this a notification that MSRT needs to be downloaded and run outside of Windows Update ?

    Hi silj,

    My posting was not meant as such, but more as a kind of an heads-up that there was an out-of-cycle update so to speak (usually you get it on Patch Tuesday). I got it via Windows Update.
    Apologies that I didn't make it more clear, due to family circumstances.

    It is an out-of-band, FanJ, related to the new malware as cited in the TechNet Blog entry on the Kelihos Botnet

    I have already downloaded and run the stand-alone MRT tool. Without any evidence of infections.
