When downloading the beta of IE 7 today, I noticed in the digital signature details for the publisher (Microsoft Corporation) that the file's certificate was valid from 1/5/2005 - 4/5/2006.

How secure are certificates that show they are out of date (especially if by a year or more)?

    Thanks.

When accessing the HP web site and before using the online chat with a support rep feature, there was a prompt to install MSXML4.CAB. The file certificate's valid to: date was in 2003.

It seems like a valid Microsoft-signed certificate, but 2003?
