    Hello,

I use windows xp pro x64 edition with 4 GB Ram.
Eset Nod32 uses about 90 MB Ram (ekrn.exe).
I tried a few days ago Avast 7 and the 2 processess were using about 35 MB Ram.
So it seems at first sight that Avast is lighther than Eset but does it protect as well ?

Yes,for me Avast seems, behaves and is lighter than Eset.
With the protection part, maybe you want to forget it,as this thread will turn into A vs B one.

Memory these days is almost a non-issue.

4GB's of ram can set someone back $15-$20, it is not uncommon to see fairly regular PC users with 8-16gb of ram, and power users with up to 32gb. Few if anyone really considers the ram usage of programs these days given those statistics.

Also less RAM usage can actually result in severe system slow down. I never understood people who bought 4 GB of RAM but are somehow afraid to use it and freak out if an application even dares to break the 3 digit RAM usage barrier.

Thats why, ever since Vista, OS itself is constantly using all the remaining free RAM as caching mechanism.

    ditto!!!

who has less than 2 or 4 GB now anyways? RAM is so cheap

I never get these people that judge an Antivirus by its memory usage! Memory usage has nothing to do with system performance impact! It's all about how the active scanner manages to scan files!! that ONLY will make a diff along with what services it runs

to be honest with u. i would prefer that my AV uses as much memory as it can and be light in performance! I have RAM to use it! not to save every freakin' MB

I really don't see why people would care about such little amount of ram used. I would much rather than av uses more ram rather than paging to disc all the time which is alot slower.
