Messing with those downloads sure seems like a big hassle for a home user to go through just to try to be sure they are updated properly, like the hassle of editing the registry to get rid of the splash screen, and the hassle of depending on ActiveX to operate anything thru the infamous McAfee Security Center. I've been using VirusScan for about four years now and have begun to wonder if I might be a masochist or something.

I think I'll be trialing NOD32 soon, since I already run Ewido guard and the combination of the two together sounds good.

If you purchased it within the past 30 days you can get a full refund ... I'm considering that possibility myself.

If I switch, probably NOD, since KAV hosed my system with its $%@# ADstreams.

Why not consider KAV clones? Y'know GDATA/eXtendia AVK, CyberScrub AntiVirus and stuff...or better participate in the ArcaVir miniquestion contest tomorrow at 5pm EST and win free MKS_Vir...

Yes it is that is what I use, but the updating is not every 3 ours unless you get premium support. But I like it enough.

Acadia, look here for AVK Profesional 2005 30 day trial in downloads, no updating in trial though. I've tried it's and definitely not the drag on resources that twin-engine av's usually are (at least here).

Yeah, I'm seriously concidering NOD myself. I liked it except for the High Capacity/Efficiency thing in the HTTP scanning. I always felt I had to check it to make sure everything was set to High Efficiency. Paranoid I guess.[IMG]

How interesting. So it sounds like all enterprise users can update daily automatically or manually, home users before version 8 can update daily automatically or manually, but home users using the latest versions of either 8 or 9 can only update weekly... I wish Mcafee would be a little more clear about what's going on. In the meantime, I'll continue my practice of only recommending Mcafee if the user has access to the enterprise version
