    Hi All,
McAfee has released its 2009 range globally.

Main improvements over 2008, range is the inclusion of McAfee Avert Lab's cloud solution called Artemis , which sends file hash to McAfee servers to check with latest database. This feature can be disabled, if needed.
Other minor improvements include new Anti-Spam Engine , updated IDS, integrated Rootkit scanner.

Existing customers with valid subscription can upgrade seamlessly now.

Datasheet for McAfee Total Protection, states new features as:
NOTE: There is still some incompatibility with IE 8 beta 2. Patch will be available soon.

How was the IDS updated? Other computers in the house use McAfee, so I'm curious.

Has Artemis improved or does it produce a lot of false positives like when it was reviewed at Av-Comparatives?

Lol! Hell just might have frozen over....Thanks but that looks like the same old security center from a couple years ago. Look at the dates in the image 2006 defs? I wonder if the new version looks any different.

You can find screenshots in McAfee beta thread for the same.
The interface has not changed much. McAfee has a uniform modular interface, which they have stated shall remain constant.

Also additional info on changes done in 2009 is available in that thread.

The information is bleak. During beta it was stated that the IDS had been improved.
See this post in the McAfee 2009 beta thread for some more info.

Although some have asked for changelog at the McAfee Forums, it has not been answered. So we have to go by official tit-bits.

If you have McAfee subscription, you can upgrade now.

If anyone has the new McAfee installed, can you check the IDS? Were more signatures added or something?

Wow, that's huge improvement. Kaspersky seems to have fallen a bit in some tests. But this still scared me where McAfee is concerned:

Also, when will Comcast customers get the new version?

That is McAfee 2008, this is McAfee 2009 (with Artemis).
Both West Coast Labs and Av-comparatives have found Artemis to boost McAfee's detection considerably.

I know it was McAfee 2008, but I'd love to see that test redone with the 2009 version.

I like mcafee products in general, but i see no improvment here.I'm not saying it's bad becouse an anti malware solution has to be tested accordingly, and not by 1 user pc.Lots of processes(the system isn't slowed down, but there are too many and i didn't install the back-up &parental control module. The on demand scanner is the slowest thing i ever seen at a security product.
Same 'yes &no firewall rules'.The firewall did a fine job handling 4MB speeds in Utorrent for inbound &outbound.

I meant the other test mentioned, not the one I mentioned. Kaspersky was lower than I expected. But it might mean nothing.

    Hello to everyone,
Will Mcafee Artemis be available in Mcafee VirusscabPlus from AOL?
    Thanks.

    Hi Smage,
    Welcome to Wilders Security Forum.
I am not sure, just to check the version of VirusScan module. If its shown as 13.x then it has Artemis.
Please see this older post. The About info for your AOL virusscan plus should be similar.

If its not same, try triggering a update and see if it prompts you for a newer version. Else check if via your AOL Safety subscription site, if you can download the latest version.

    Hi vijayind,
    Thanks for your reply.
In fact I downloaded this free version of Mcafee yesterday, so I assumed that it was the lastest version. But even after updating, I am still with virusscan 12.1.
So it must be a policy of Mcafee to make only an older version available for free!
Guess that I'll switch back to Avast, PC Tools Firewall Plus and Threatfire. At least, I'll be able to benefit from the latest updates there.

    Yes, its possible.
I remember that earlier AOL was peddling Kaspersky 5 as "AOL Active Virus Shield" . So possibly they are running the older McAfee version.

Although McAfee 2007 is not a bad product, its best to choose whichever fits your bill :thumb:
