In reading various forum and topics I believe that those who clean infected computers always recommend MBAM and SAS. I do not recall seeing other AM applications such as A-squared or Counterspy mentioned.

Is it fair to conclude that MBAM followed by SAS are the top malware detectors and cleaners if the AV misses the infection?

    Regards,
    Jerry

For the free versions as scanners they are a very good duo. :) Great detection rates with both programs so together should be able to pretty much clean the whole system.

UBCD4WIN is also a very good tool to have handy - can kill many birds with this one stone.

Some of the more stubborn junk can only be removed from outside of the OS's live state. So you can save a lot of time/hassle by letting one of the many live AV CD scanners rip through the drive in the first place. UBCD4WIN has a bunch of applications on it, SAS & Spybot, Avira, etc.

You shouldn't forget Dr. Web's CureIt! While not as frequently recommended, they seem to know what they do. It can help remove malware initially before MBAM/SAS are brought to bear.
