The Disk Director suite is having many problems dealing with my Vista Premium pre-loaded onto my Compaq Presario C700 laptop.

    - The full mode says there are NO DISKS in the system!

    - The other mode finds the disk, but will NOT let me to any partition operations on them!

    But here's the killer:

    - I installed OS Selector, but after it loads, it says it cannot find any operating systems! But now I just CANNOT get it to go away or to bypass it, so I cannot boot Vista at all anymore!!!!

    HELP!?!

Get your original Vista-DVD, boot it and then go into the repair-menu. In this menu choose the command prompt (DOS Box) and there you should type this:

    Bootrec /fixmbr

This should repair the Masterbootrecord and after this you could boot in your Vista.

    regards, Jens

    ambush19,

Are you using the latest build of DD (2,160)?

When you boot to the Safe Mode version of DD, do you get an error message? Can you describe in more detail what you mean by will NOT let me do any partition operations on them?

If the Safe Mode version of DD can't work properly with your hard drive, then OSS may also have a problem (they both access the hardware through the computer's BIOS). However, it's possible that OSS is just having a problem detecting your OEM installation of Vista (a known problem). You could try and enter the Vista entry manually as in this thread (post #14): Vista disappeared in dual boot

If the bootfix method posted by jennix doesn't work, have you tried uninstalling OSS by booting from the DD CD? In order to try this you would have to include the OSS program on the CD when you created it with Media Builder.
