    Staying with XP? Do you have these 3 essential security tools? - - - (1) a good program for regularly cloning your system disk, and (2) an external HD for storing the clones, and (3) MBAM, for discerning when to restore a *clean clone* (Shazam! Suddenly it's a week ago - or so).

    Thanks for your concern.

    bellgamin;
    I run the latest version of Firefox in Sandboxie.
    I have MBAM Pro real-time.
    I have two sets of full images for XP Home & Pro via Paragon and Macrium on separate external hard drives which are not connected to the PC until they are needed.
    All images are confirmed clean via scans from Malwarebytes as well as from Kaspersky, Bitdefender, and Avira rescue CDs.
    I am currently using MBAE and WinPatrol Pro for behavior analysis.

    I hope that will suffice. It has to-date.

    @wtsinnc:

    Very nice back-up setup.

    Do you sometimes wonder if your firewall situation could be improved?

    I'm still keeping an XP Home and a XP Pro (both SP3) around for troubleshooting the problems of others. I've upgraded the firewall situation on both and I try not to expose them to the Internet much other than for updates etc.

    Cheers. :)

    Hello 1PW;

    Yes, I'm looking at Private FW and a couple of others (Comodo with D+ but not their AV component and maybe the free version of Outpost).

    As for any other application, I want nothing that is in any way cloud-based; don't trust it !

    @anon

    I made screenshots earlier but wasn't able to post due to the forum upgrade. I'm going to upload them now.
    The images of the scan results show Chameleon enable/disabled when the self-protection box is checked and unchecked. This is the only way that I found that shows Chameleon turning on and off.

    I am getting BSOD's after trying MBAM 2 again every time I try to perform a scan. This is the second time I have reported this and again I have to go back to 1.75.

    Anyone have any ideas on what the problem is?

    Hello silver0066:

    Q1) Did you save/have the system's minidump file(s) from the/any BSOD?

    Q2) Did you make any note of the BSOD stop code? (STOP: 0x000000??)

    Q3) Which of the three types of MBAM2 scans cause the BSOD, and what scanning options are invoked? Rootkits? Archives?

    If you have no information on the above, that's OK, though it certainly would be very helpful if you can in the future.

    If the BSOD's aren't constant, it would be great if you'd stay with MBAM2 long enough so MBAM staffers/helpers could work with you.

    The best way to improve this whole process is for you to open your own thread at: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Help.

    Thank you. :)

    Thanks for the clarification.
    But as I already mentioned before, re the Chameleon : there is nothing in description =
    that's why my question: Where is it?"

    OT:
    The small fonts (especially the user name) and the color for the quotes are ridiculous......

    The new version is a lot better without the screaming warnings :)

    Btw, using Pro version on demand with scheduled tasks still has MBAM starting a while after booting. Only difference is that the GUI and warnings don't appear, only the tray icon with exclamation mark.

    How do I prevent automatic program updates?

    For instance, prevent updating from 2.0.1.1001 to 2.0.1.1004.

    Hello Charyb:

    Although a suggestion has been made for handling this in a different manner, the only current way for holding off these updates is to answer the requests by repeatedly clicking on "Later".

    HTH :)

    1. and 2. Attached is the Error report produced by WhoCrashed v5.01.
    3. It occurred on all types of scans, Hyper, Threat and Selected. On the selected it happened just before Heuristic analysis. No rootkits or Archives were checked. The BSOD's are constant.

    You can only do this in 1.75. We are forcing users to move away from 2.0 and to 2.0.1 for now.

    I've searched numerous posts (but not all) in this thread but I did not find the question I have. When I go to "Automated Scheduling" the check box for "Check for Updates" is never checked after I've checked the box. Do you not have to check that box? I have found that the versions have not been updated sometimes but it may have been after I did a recent image restore so I'm not sure there is an issue or not. Thank you!

    I found that a little confusing too, but I believe checking the box is only necessary if you want to remove a scheduled event. The listed events are active.

    v2.01 does not work either, still a beta if you look at the Malwarebytes forum and count all of the problems this software has caused people.

    He said "for now", they are working on bringing more user settings back in the next few builds.
