Does the real time scanning detect during /just after downloading or does the file have to be executed before mbam real time kicks in?

That, I don't know but you can ask on their forum and post it here.

Ive had the pro license for ages but never used it real time as i found it slow and laggy ,however reading through the thread here i noticed that the website blocking which caused a little slowness and cpu usage has been addressed, which caused me to set it real time again, and indeed its a lot better than it used to be ,but for me it doesn't detect anything on download .Only when i scan after does it detect anything.Ive obviously set the protection settings all enabled apart from auto quarantine.

Reading some of the posts at the forums, mbam detects on execution.I would have liked it to detect downloaded files ,but i guess they are concerned that it may interfere with resident avs.Shame really as mbam usually detects stuff before the avs in my tests.

Thats exactly how I feel about MBAM, it has been off my system for awhile because of the CPU usage but now it is back real time again and it runs just fine.

True, but i would rather have it detect on execution and be able to run it along my av than as a stand alone protection.

I dont know. Most of the threats i get are intentionally or unintentionally downloaded from the net,and mbam seems to me to be ahead when it comes to zero day stuff.Id rather have mbam scan if i could rather than my resident av.I wonder whether a command line scan can be invoked somehow?.Ill have to join the mbam forum and ask.

Or maybe they are trying to make MBAM as light as possible.

I think that one should be on their priority list. Not too many people want to run a heavy 2nd real time scanner.

May I ask how do you define heavy in this case?

    My definition of heavy:
    1) low ram usage
    2) high CPU usage
    3) high I/O usage

Low RAM usage, first time I've seen that. As for the others, what do you expect from a scanner that's trying to finish the job ASAP? Unless you meant real-time or scheduled scans, your definition doesn't matter.

Most large programs that try to have as low ram usage as possible end up spiking up in the I/O or CPU department... So I use it as a rule of thumb.

I expect it to give me an option to either use lots of CPU or use little CPU and do a slower scan.

Thanks you are welcomed to select programs by your own criteria. Good luck :).

Not necessarily, MBAM isn't large anyways.

Have you found any such scanner yet?

Don't just crop out the first part, that's where it matters.
