    Is it legal for a website to secretly plant malware / spyware / viruses / Trojan horses on the computers of people who visit that website?

    It most certainly isn't legal (or ethical) for a website to deliberately infect your system with malware.However actually gaining a prosecution is a different matter alas.Of course good sites can often become compromised without their knowledge too.

    I presume from your question that you've been hit by a malicious site?
