In theory the following should be almost impossible.

I have the following setup on my desktop:

Drive 1: Primary partitions 3 all hidden from each other.
Bootloader used belongs to W7 with a jump to standard XP bootloader.

Have installed TI on W7 partition and made an image. This image is directed to internal drive 2 partition 5.

On XPpro TI is also installed and has the following tasks and schedules.

Systemdrive XP/Test every Saturday full image to external drive K: (this drive is fixed as K: in registry)

This task has not been altered since the end of December when it was setup.

Tonight it has run, but has changed not only the image name but also the image location to that of the W7 image and location - so it has actually overwritten the W7 image AND imaged to the wrong partition.

I have two other fortnightly tasks (run on alternate weeks) that were amended two weeks ago - these tasks were originally made when TI 2009 was in beta.

These are for drive 2 and image 4 partitions.

Last week, TI decided to suddenly run both tasks together - though the one that shouldn't have run TI deleted after imaging, leaving the one that should have- confused? I was.

Tonight it has run the correct task (the one that it shouldn't have run last week) and lo and behold, this also has changed it's backup location and name to yup you've guessed it W7 beta.

The question is, how without me altering the task can it have possibly by itself changed the image name and location to one that this copy of TI has never been pointed to?

The only thing that has happened to this machine, was today I had to uninstall and re-install dotNet 3.5.0, as a program that uses MS ClickOnce for downloading updates had failed.

I've just looked at the tasks mentioned and they are definitely pointing to the wrong location and have assumed the W7 image name - again, how can this happen when the tasks and the schedules have not been altered by me, and no, there is no one else who could have had access to this machine.

As for consolidation on my laptop - i give up, it has consolidated a weeks files into two image files (NTFS system on external drive) written an extra image file with a new suffix and left all the old archives. If I try and mount the consolidated image, it tells me it needs image 4 as the start image which actually doesn't exist.

I'm getting fed up with this version of TI especially as the beta actually appeared more reliable (despite it's flaws).

I own a copy of a certain German company's image software, which although does not allow differentials and has poor compression, it does at least do what it is supposed to do, plus tasks can have start and finish dates, though with the present scheduler task problems of TI, I probably shouldn't press for that facility in TI.

    Hurrmphd of Brisbane!

    Hello Colin,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

The issue you have experienced is abnormal. Do you remember the exact sequence of the actions? Was the external hard drive connected to the system when the backup location was re-directed? Have you experienced a task failure (when you placed the archive to the external hard drive) before the current operation?

    Thank you.

But not ATI program has been designed specifically to deal with Win 7, why are you surprised?

You misunderstand me Shieber - this is on the XP partition, and imaging all partitions except W7 beta , XP test and my pagefile partition on the disk.

What it has done is to usurp my test image of the W7 partition imaged from within W7 stored on an internal harddrive.

The tasks on my everyday XP partition are pointed to an external drive and do not have the name W7-beta.

    Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

Colin, are you able to reproduce the issue?

    Thank you.

Not at the moment, I deleted the task and started again - the only thing I can reproduce at this moment is the two current tasks running simultaneously, which shouldn't as they ought to be a week a apart.
