Windows XP user, reporting a major bug.

I have been fighting and fighting, reading USB forums all over.

What happened, is I could not install any USB Mass Storage devices (hard drives). They would start to install, but then after a few clicks here and there the PC froze. It would NEVER let me shut down even if It tired immediately. I had to power down to shut down (as I was scared to corrupt files). I went to safe mode, I could unplug and plug in all I wanted and the USB drives worked perfectly.

Just to make things clear, all other USB devices worked perfectly, such as Keyboards, mice, web cameras, printers, etc.

So finally after reading all USB resorts on the web, I just decided myself to uninstall ESet Smart Security. Things are perfect now.

On a side note, to the developers. If I plugged the USB drives in SADE mode, like I said they work. If I LEFT them plugged in, then booted into regular mode, they remained working. So long as I did not plug any more in and unplug and replace one.

Now in the meantime I have to find another AV solution, or I just may resort back to ESS 3 where I never had any problems.

I hope to hear of a solution. I will answer any and all reports or data you may need to solve the problem.

    Thank you.

I reported same sort of problem some posts back. I completely uninstalled 5.0.94, and reinstalled 5.0.93 and all is working fine. I wont update to a newer version until i know it is fixed.

Well thanks for the backup and previous post informing ESET.

I went back to 3.0.695 as it is stable as a rock, at least on my system. It's even a bit faster than 5.

But I do hope they get 5 fixed so the new technology can be used.

    Thanks again.

I hope they get it fixed.

Does this bug affect V4.2.71.2. I have not experienced any problems so far.

You'd better install the latest v4 (4.2.71) as it fixes a lot of issues present in v3.

Thanks both of you, I may upgrade to that one soon.

I just hope the version 5 gets the USB mass storage bug fixed soon.
