Just wanted to pass this on, especially for users of Macrium v4.2... Quote (21Jan2015): Macrium Reflect v4.2 users! Please note that v6 is due for release in a few weeks. Bad news: no upgrade path from v4.2 to v6. Good news: if you purchase an upgrade to v5 now (anytime after 01Nov2014) you will receive a free upgrade to v6 when it is released. You may use this coupon code for an additional 40% off upgrade (only) purchases: NWJ-JAT-SJX
Thanks for sharing that coupon code. Any coupons for us new users potentially jumping onto this backup software?
A few weeks? I thought the way people are posting about ver.6 and "the end of January" the release was imminent. sigh...
It would be nice to hear from some of the folks actually testing the program,,,,,, hopefully it will live up to the hype. From what is being posted here by those looking forward to its release it sure sounds like they are assuming it will function flawlessly and are ready to buy as soon as it is available. Perhaps a bit premature in this.
Very true. However, given Macrium's enthusiasm in addressing issues and deploy them rapidly (as opposed to Acronis' we'll fix it whenever we feel like it), I'm more inclined to go along. So far they have not given any bad feelings about this.
It never hurts to be patient (today is less than 2-weeks from the posting date)... and you're gonna need lots of time to test the TRIAL anyway... relax.
I wrote and asked about beta testing. They aren't doing it. Makes me a bit nervous to be among the first
Forgive my ignorance, but according to "Help--About", I have Software Version 5.3 and build 7256. (I assume that this is v5?) However, I didn't purchase this version after Nov. 1, 2014. Will I still be eligible for a free upgrade?
No Beta testing? Now that is a bit troubling. Still given Macriums good reputation maybe they do know what they are doing. Time will tell.
I'm currently an Acronis (True Image Home) customer, but experimenting with the free version of Reflect. I have only 2 use cases and both involve booting a virtual PE ISO image via grub (so not running in my main OS) to: 1) make an image of the entire SSD in my PC to the HD in that PC 2) make a clone of the HD in the PC to an identical HD in an external (SATA) enclosure What additional value do the paid versions of Reflect offer, if these are my only use cases? Additionally, how can I change the resolution used by Windows XP in the free PE version?
Answered me in their facebook page: "Not the end of *this* month We expect v6 to be released in February."
Paid version gives you an option of differential and incremental backups (smaller images if you create them regularly). That's why I bought a licence. Don't know about the resolution.
This irks me a bit, in that I can't easily find that info on their webpage. As far as I am concerned being informed on Facebook is not being in formed at all.
Will it be sent by email? For Paragon, I have an account so I can see such info from there but IIRC I don't made account for Macrium.
As I posted in the AX64 thread, I've removed AX64 completely and gone back to my old standby ShadowProtect, Raxco's IR, and ShadowDefender. I wanted to do this as it gives a basis of comparison to see if V6 will be worth the money. 1. Going back to RIR, my C: drive is now 124gb. Shadow protect image times, are 15 minutes for a full image, and 1.5 minutes or less for a Continuous Incremental Restore time for this image was 33 minutes. 2. Usage: For working where I want to undo what I've done, ShadowDefender literally it is just a reboot. If I need to test something where a reboot is necessary, IR comes into play, where the total rollback time is about a third of the time of an image restore. With IR, images restores are very infrequent. 3. The biggie. Continuous Incremental features that would be essential for me 1. Obviously the time to take an image. 2. The ability to set a start and stop time for the incremental job 3. The ability to edit the frequency on the fly. Another words create a job that is an incremental per hour, and change it to one every 15 minutes if I want, and then change it back. 4. Automatically collapse intra day incrementals into daily, weekly and monthly incrementals 5. Set retention times for all incrementals. 6. Ability to pause job, and then restart it. 7 Manually do an incremental with in the context of the job 8 Ability to set throttling. I have it set at 70% so this means it's easier to use the computer, but also may effect imaging times. Going to be interesting to test. This is why I was very disappointed there was no beta testing. Pete
Shoot, I purchased a 4 pack on Oct 10. Lol, oh well I would want to let a major new version settle down for 6 months or so anyway.
LOL I used Macrium Free before for a couple of times. My machines are pretty fast, and the imaging and restore using macrium are obviously on the slow side. Although it never gave me problems per say, I found Acronis to be not only reliable, but also much faster and versatile. So now I basically abandoned Macrium. When v6 comes out I'll give it a go again, just to see the speed and compression. If still no improvement over v5, I guess I'll still stick with Acronis. After all, Acronis is the most widely used imaging programs overall (I started using it since ~2003 with XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 not a single problem yet). Many HDD OEMs such as WD and Seagate provide their OEM version of Acronis for free.
In my (not-so-fast) hardware, I have also found Macrium quite slow when I have tried it. In the last try, it created a 20.0 GB image at a rate of 29.3 MB/s (SATA to external USB 3.0). The numbers for IFW were 17.9 GB and 65.9 MB/s. That is, Macrium operated much more slowly and created a larger image.
