v4.2 is regarded as one of the best imaging apps ever. IMO it will go down as one of those great "legacy" versions of things. I used the Standard version but gave the key to a friend that needed it more, as I found myself never needing to re-image. So now use the free 4.2 I tried to "upgrade" to v5 and it nearly crippled my box. Back to 4.2.3638.0, and highly recommend digging this oldie up.
I'm using the trial of Macrium Reflect Standard. It's taken 3 days to do a 350GB backup and it's still going. I'm doing the backup to a network PC via Gigabit. Transfer speed has slowly declined from 50Mbps to about 15 as more data is copied. Is this low speed normal for a backup with "Standard" compression? Will subsequent backups be quicker?
Oh yikes. After 3.5 days of backing up the drive, I had a network error and the entire operation failed. I guess Macrium can't recover from an error like this?
Wow! I purchased and installed MR (version 5) over the weekend. I did a complete image backup of my C drive. It is currently 187 GB and it took 1 hour and 15 minutes! I basically clicked through the default settings. The only thing I changed or set is the image location--my external HD. P.S. Come to think of it, it also imaged my recovery partition at the same time. 3.5 days?! Something's wrong here. No way it should have taken that long....
Wow! This sounds like what VISTA used to do with networking... start out reasonably quick and then slow down along the way. It was a serious problem that never got addressed.
I recently upgraded my WiFi to 802.11.ac (router and client) and was very happy to see Reflect create at 20+ MB/sec, but when I tried to verify the image I only see a brief burst of data and then Reflect hangs. I am able to transfer the image from the NAS to the PC over WiFi so the problem appears to be in Reflect and not the hardware. Any ideas why Reflect is having problems verifying over WiFi?
Hi Peter, If you are using their paid version, then I suggest that you post it on their forum or open a support ticked. Best regards, Mohamed
I'm using Windows 7. Gigabit network. Never have problems with network file transfers and I do quite a bit of shuffling of 8+GB video files between my PC and server. Acronis and Comodo backup completed the backups successfully. Aoemi also failed. I'm trying to evaluate a backup application for a client. Simple and reliable are the keys here.
Macrium Reflect 5.2.6437 has been released. http://updates.macrium.com/reflect/v5.0/v5.2.6437/details5.2.6437.htm http://www.macrium.com/pages/downloads.aspx
Hi 1PW, The PAID version downloads directly from the program. The above download will turn the PAID Licensed Version to don't know what. The above download is a 30 days TRAIL. Best regards, Mohamed
Ok, I bought a copy of Macrium Professional for a client and installed it. Installation went well and the first image to a USB HDD worked perfectly. I hope I have it set up correctly for incremental backups.
It is probably not the most intuitive for setting up schedules, but when it is done, it runs seamlessly. My computers are now set and forget, and I have selected to keep a maximum of 2 backups, so I really have nothing else to do with it. Even the updates work seamlessly.
i understood that it should be possible to restore an image without a boot disc if the computer has no problem and can boot up normally. i tried today to restore an image with the free version. inside the program i right-clicked on the image then hit "restore". as expected, it said it can not restore the image (C drive) as the computer was running. but i thought it would automatically restart and restore the image. otherwise, why have the "restore" option? not possible, it required a boot disc. ok, i created the boot disc. it wanted to download 140 MB in order to create that!?! i don't need some fancy windows-style interface, just to restore an image! so i choose the linux based boot disc, no downloads required. ok, booted up with the disc and choose to "copy" the image (what a bad choice of words). to my huge surprised, it didn't recognized any partition to restore the image to! now that's a bummer!!! i'm so glad i had an image created with Easeus Todo Backup, i used that. went smooth as always, no problems whatsoever. to summarize my experience with Macrium Reflect: it's interface is nice and clear. creating a rescue boot disc asks for an additional 140 MB download (whats the point? i want a program that can work right after install). using the linux based rescue disc resulted in the impossibility to restore the image. a big, and i mean huge, disappointment. PS: the system on which i tried Macrium Reflect is the one in my signature. i restored images with Easeus Todo Backup and never had any problems. tried Macrium just so see if there are better options. i guess i have my answer.
I am using the free version. What I have noticed so far is this: The image was created without any problems. I was able to copy the image back to the PC over WiFi and it verified locally as being OK. If I try to verify over WiFi and have something else running accessing the Internet then I can get further with the verify before it aborts. I also tried Paragon 2013 Free and that seemed to have problems creating the image. Next I'll see how AOMEI works since it seems to be well regarded here.
I just tried macrium reflect professional trial and I do not see any differences between it and the free and I can not find differential/incremental or dual boot option in it?? Anyone knows were these are??
Feature Comparison How to create Incremental and Differential Backups using Macrium Reflect --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bKg-w6VS2_A By "dual boot option", are you referring to Macrium's "Recovery from Windows boot menu"? If you are,you can create it under 'Other Tasks'/"Add Recover Boot Menu Options', which, once added, appears on your system's boot menu. HTH
Hi: Thanks I found it. In the future if I get some cash, I will get this software. For now, back to the free version.
You can create the dual boot option for the free version with the help of EasyBCD editor. Best regards, Mohamed
Hi Peter, I have tried many imaging programs over WiFi. They all seem to have problems and they take a very, very long time, depending upon the traffic in network. The results are not always the same, due to the traffic in the network at that time. Best regards, Mohamed
