Backstreet Boy arrested for DUI
Nick Carter busted in Huntington Beach; charges pending.

HUNTINGTON BEACH – Singer Nick Carter, a member of the iconic boy-band Backstreet Boys, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said today.

Carter, 25, was stopped for a traffic violation near Third Street and Olive Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Huntington Beach police Lt. Dave Bunetta said. The officer reported that Carter appeared intoxicated, and a field sobriety test was performed.

The test results were not disclosed but Carter was arrested and held for about four hours before posting bail. The case will be referred to the district attorney's office for possible charges, Bunetta said.

The five-member Backstreet Boys have sold more than 36 million albums and recently completed their first new album in five years. They plan a concert tour beginning in July and were scheduled to begin a series of club appearances this month.

Carter also is one of several celebrities subpoenaed as defense witnesses at Michael Jackson's trial in Santa Maria.
