SDK Engine in Virgin product covers AV/AS and all riskware not just AV... other specific features pertains to the respective producers. KAV Antispyware protection however is not offered free.

I've only had one problem with KIS2010 and it hasn't been a big problem. Every now and then the K icon in the tray will start pulsating(poster on Kaspersky forum said it was the "heartbeat") and when this happens the computer locks up for around 10-15 seconds where I can't do anything. Once it stops, everything resumes as normal. Happens mostly when I'm on the web.

The mod at Kaspersky said this is the Application classification working but sometimes this seems to "heartbeat" when no programs are opened.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Like I mentioned, it's not a big problem, but it does get frustrating when I'm doing something and have to stop and wait until the "heartbeat" is done.

I experienced the same thing. I agree, it is frustrating.

Glad to hear I'm not alone. I was thinking there might be something I screwed up in the install or something.

Also, glad to hear the fix will hopefully address this.

Other than that, I like KIS 2010. Of course, I'm not real smart on these apps(that's why I come to this forum) but it seems to me to be doing a great job. FWIW. lol

These "pulsations" occur during KAV scanning. I'm doing a computer scan as I type this and ikon is pulsating.

Can i update Kaspersky Antivirus 7.0 that i got with my ASUS Rampage II Gene motherboard to version 2010 ? Someone from XtremeSystems said he couldn't do it. Any special trick? Because i have no intention on using outdated software today. Updates should be available for as long as the license is valid, right?

If you have an OEM license, probably you'll receive updates as long your license is valid, but you cannot upgrade kav 7.0 to a higher build (ver 8.0 or 9.0), see:

My take on 2010 is it the best yet. It will have no problem fighting for top dog. But, having said that my concern with it is, it is still to cumbersome for the average user to understand. Suites are not built for the likes of folks here, but are built for the average person who wants simplification. Now there are several heading in that direction and when Kaspersky decides to then, look out. But it is intimidating to say the least.

With KIS 2010 you don't have to do a thing to be fully secured. For us people there are some ectra's . That's exactly what I like about KIS

I realize that, but when you start digging it, well it is like a XBOX game. You better be ready to reverse direction if needed.;)

There is a beta version of KIS 2010 ?
    I'm trialling the final release.

    Just a few questions:
KIS 2010 is considerably different from the previous version.
I remember reading in av-comparatives that the product was tested with heuristics at maximum.

In this version, it is possible to select how 'detailed' a scan is.
What setting are you people using ?

For the most part I use the 'medium' setting.

Does anyone know what the different settings actually do ?

I'm just curious about why I get a daily visit from the 'Helkern' worm, at least once. :p No other stuff.

    Quick question:

KIS 2010 doesn't want to install because I have nod32 which I do not want to uninstall per kaspersky's request.

Is there a switch that disables KIS checking for nod32?

    Thanks

there is some commandline parameters to skip the imcompatible software check.
make sure you dont install realtime protection componants of both or you are likely to get conflicts and blue screen of death.

Most antivirus vendors suggest you run only one program at a time. This prevents conflicts and strange or unexpected computer behavior.

When I checked out KIS 2009, someone suggested that Kaspersky's virtual keyboard wasn't very useful, since it would use the same API as a regular keyboard. (Intention: protection against keyloggers)

Does anyone know if this applies to KIS 2010 as well ?
