Long scan times??

    How long is a typical scan suppose to take? My scan takes 3 hours. The reviews say their scans only take 20-30 minutes. What can I do to make it faster?

    Hello HighLifeTech,

    Can you give more information on your system?

    What is your operating system, amount of data being scanned, any other security programs you are using, and anything else that might be helpful.

    Are you using the default settings in ESS?

    trial version of eset smart security 4 on xp sp3, 1.6 ghz, 1 gb ram, 11gb hd space used out of 20gb. I did a fresh install recently so there isnt alot of junk on there. software installed: malwarebytes (free version), acrobat 9, ie8, freemeter, visual studio 9, thats about it! Could NTFS cause it to scan slower? I use the basic default settings since im not an advanced user.

    Since were talking about scan times, I did a manual scan a few days ago and Eset took 3:33.48 to scan 441014 files while a scheduled scan this evening took 2:50.03 to scan 452912 files. More files tonight than a few days ago but less time taken.o_O And this isn't the first time I've noticed a scheduled scan takes less time. Also I wasn't doing anything extra with the computer when doing the manual scans.
